Continuum: Microsoft’s Windows Phone 10 can operate like a desktop

All you need to have is a monitor, keyboard and mouse. And of course your Windows Phone
10 and dock to have a computer that feels uncannily similar to a full-fledged Windows 10
desktop.

With the latest hardware technology, mobile phones now boast quad-core processors, few
gigabytes of RAM and large storage capacities. These phones are way more powerful than
their desktop/laptop counterparts of the past decade.

Microsoft decided to refine the idea of what a powerful mobile device is when it introduced
Windows 10 back in 2015. With hardware already so powerful in the mobile devices, it was
time to upgrade the devices’ software to match up with the hardware. Windows 10 Mobile
is the mobile operating system created by Microsoft and its main focus was to create a
consistency with what Windows 10 for personal computers offers.

Continuum is a software developed exclusively for phones which run Microsoft Windows 10
Mobile. Taking advantage of the strong hardware that the Windows phones possess, the
Continuum software will enable the mobile phone to connect to any monitor and keyboard
and run desktop applications. Instead of lugging a very heavy laptop, users can now whip
out their Windows 10 mobile phones and start using it like their own personal computers.

It can be said that Microsoft is trying to create a killer software bundling of Continuum with
its Windows 10 Mobile platform to help drive up sales of its mobile devices and compete
against Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android platform. It remains to be seen if the Continuum
software has helped pull Microsoft up from their previously abysmal phone sales.
