1) make planer thicker: The planer must be adjusted so that the planed wood is

much thicker than usual. Loosen the clamping screw A and adjust the height
adjustment B in the direction + plus. (Plan a wood, measure and repeat the
process if necessary) At the end screw A again. (see picture)
2) Remove old knife: Unscrew screw 1 completely. Loosen screws 3 + 3 and 4.
Then fold the tilting part down around the screw 4. Push the knife
downwards.
3) Insert new knife: Push knife in from below, insert screw 1 and lightly screw
in (not quite firm yet!) - make sure that the knife almost seals the bottom
with the brass - it should project minimally downwards (about 6 / 100mm) ,
Then tighten screws 3+ 3 a little bit (never completely). Fold the tilting part
upwards - Guide screw 2a into the slot of the blade and tighten screw 4.
4) Set chip thickness: It should be about 6 / 100mm for a new knife. For this you
need some wood (diameter 10mm!) 1 planer wood, measure chip thickness
with dial gauge and if necessary, change chip thickness: loosen screw 1 and
tighten again very easily and then adjust the knife with screw 2 (screw in =
chip becomes thicker and vice versa). Attention! Turn screw 2 only minimally
(barely visible), as the chip thickness changes very quickly immediately.
Then tighten screw 1 again.

Loosen screw 1 and tighten slightly. (not tight, very loose) If the screw is too loose,
dirt or chips may get between the knife and the support surface when moving the
knife, and the Merrer will not be properly positioned. Push knife down with screw 2
until the chip is approx. 6-7 / 100 mm thick. The duller the knife gets, the thicker the
chip can be. Tighten screw 1 again. Then use the machine to plan wood that is
smaller in diameter so that the wood lies securely on the bottom of the trough. Plan
wood and measure the thickness. (For safety's sake, plane and measure several
pieces of wood.) Then make the machine thinner.

Screw for lateral removal of the knife

guide wheel

Below the carriage is the screw for laterally aligning the knife. Insert a thin
screwdriver or pin into the opening of the screw and align the knife in the middle by
turning it to the right or left, looking at the knife with a magnifying glass directly
from the front.
