Fidel V. Ramos or Fidel Valdez Ramos, born in the year march 18,1928 in
Lingayen, Panagsinan ,Philippines. A military leader and a politician who became
the president of the Philippines in 1992-1998.

President Corazon Aquino, was prohibited by the constitution to run for a


second term, endorsed Defense Minister Fidel V. Ramos for the 1992
presidential elections.

Fidel V. Ramos won under the new political party partido lakas tao based on his
long-held doctrine of people empowerment.

Many of the members call themselves as non-traditional politicians like
Joseph “Erap” Estarda, San Juan mayor, Senator and a Movie Star.

President Ramos worked on an agenda reforms to make the Philippines a New


Industrialized Country (NIC) by the year 2000. Five days later President Ramos
announced the creation of a “Malacanang of the south” to “bring malacanang
closer to the people”.

President Ramos also encountered the remnants of the two previous


administration and these are:
• mass poverty
• ailing economy

• power crisis
• high crime rate

• graft and corruption


• environmental problems and insurgency

These difficulties triggered President Ramos to his agenda for reforms to achieve
progress and stability in the country. To secure the economy President Ramos
ordered the dismantling of monopolies and cartels. Also legislative were also
approved to increase domestic and foreign investments, improve human
resources and enhance the country’s links with the other nation in the global
economy.

In 1992, 781,000 new jobs were available in the


country. The unemployment rate from 9.8% in the
year 1996 was reduces to 8.4% in the year 1997.

Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW’s) were able to


receive protection with the enactment of the
Migrant workers act of 1995 .
