Homework #1

1. Broadcasting
- Broadcasting is the simultaneous transmission of the same message to
multiple recipients. In networking, broadcasting occurs when a transmitted data
packet is received by all network devices. It is also the distribution of audio or
video content to a dispersed audience via any electronic mass communications
medium, but typically one using the electromagnetic spectrum (radio waves),
in a one-to-many model.

4. Broadcast Channel
- In broadcasting, a channel or frequency channel is a designated radio
frequency (or, equivalently, wavelength), assigned by a competent frequency
assignment authority for the operation of a radio station, television station or
television channel.
- A Broadcast Channel (BCH) is a downlink channel in a GSM system that is
used by the base stations to provide signaling information to the mobile
stations. The mobile station needs this information to find a network,
synchronize with it and to connect to it.

5. Enumerate the different types of Broadcasting

- By definition, broadcasting means “to transmit by radio or television,” but, with
developments in technology that have taken place, that simple phrase now
includes many different types of transmission. Let’s start with a summary of the
main types in use today in the United States and overseas. Many of the
systems mentioned below differ only in the way they are transmitted—studio
systems for radio and television generally have fewer variations. Don’t worry if
you don’t fully understand all the terms used in this chapter: they will be
explained later in the appropriate sections.
