1.2 HANA Installation
1.2 HANA Installation
• SAP HANA SPS 11 server installation requires the GCC compiler to be at level 4.8 or higher.
This compiler version is included with the latest OS updates, except for the SLES 11 SP2 and
SP3, which require manual patching (or upgrade to SP4).
For general information, see SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11.x for SAP Applications Configuration Guide for SAP HANA
attached to SAP Note 1944799 - SAP HANA Guidelines for SLES Operating System.

Information About Maintenance period
The SAP HANA Platform Edition has the following components. As you can see, there
are a lot of components to take care of:
SAP HANA database

SAP HANA studio (including SAP HANA STUDIO RSA PLUGIN)
SAPUI5 Tools IDE PLUGIN
SAP Host Agent, Diagnostics Agent
SAP HANA information composer
SAP HANA AFL

SAP HANA Lifecycle Manager
SAP HANA RDL
SAP HANA INA Toolkit HTML
SAP HANA EPM Service
SAP HANA Demo Modell
SAP HANA smart data access
SAP HANA HW Configuration Check Tool
Preconfigured hardware setup Reuse existing infrastructure and thereby reduce costs
The mount directory is used for shared files between all hosts in an SAP HANA system. This directory
needs to be accessible to each of the servers in the SAP HANA cluster.
Installation path /hana/shared/ Sub-directories:●/hana/shared/<SID> - Contains executable kernel programs (exe), globally shared
data (global), instance profiles (profile), HDB executables (HDB<number>), and uninstallation script
and instruntime (hdblcm), client and studio.
This is the path to the local SAP system instance directories. It is possible to join this location with the
System instance /usr/sap Linux installation.
Sub-directories:●/usr/sap/hostctrl - The SAP host agent directory.●/usr/sap/<SID> - Contains system
executables (SYS) and the home directory (home) of the <sid>adm user.
Data volume /hana/data/<SID> The default path to the data directory depends on the system ID of the SAP HANA host
Log volume /hana/log/<SID> The default path to the log directory depends on the system ID of the SAP HANA host.
HDBLCM Gui
HDBLCM Web
HDBLCM Cmd
HDBLCM GUI is accessible from the Media DVD HDB_LCM_LINUX_X86_64 folder. Start the gui version by
running the script hdblcmgui or use hdblcm for command line installation.
Navigate to the directory and run the hdblcm tool with action
update.
<host>:<SAP_Installation_Medium>/DATA_UNITS/HDB_LC
M_LINUX_X86_64 #./hdblcm –-action=update
<sid>adm : The system admin is the os user required for administrative tasks such as starting and
stopping the system. The user id and group id of this user must be unique and identical on each host
of a distributed system. When a backup is triggered thru studio or command line, internally it uses the
sidadm account to take the backup.
Sapadm: If there is no SAP host agent available, then it is installed during the installation along with
the user sapadm. If the host agent is already installed, then the HANA unified installer neither
modifies the host agent not the sapadm user’s password.
System: The database super user. After installation, for the first time you login through Studio thru this
account.
(*) The customer is generally responsible for maintenance of the SAP HANA system. If the customer has a special support agreement with the hardware partner,
maintenance may be the responsibility of the hardware partner.
(**) SAP is the main point of contact and distributes all issues within the support organization by default, as is the case for other SAP applications. If the customer has
defined special support agreements with the hardware partner, the customer should contact the hardware partner directly in the case of obvious hardware or operating
system issues. If no agreements have been made neither SAP nor the hardware partner are responsible for the installation, maintenance and possible adjustment of
external software installed on the SAP HANA system.

The underlying hardware must be certified by SAP's ICC for SAP HANA.
The maximum memory reserved for the virtual machines should not exceed 90% of the physical memory of
the hypervisor.
SAP HANA needs the full instruction set of the host CPU(s). Adjust the settings for the VM accordingly.
For monitoring and system management purposes, VMware Tools must be installed and running as well.
For performance reasons, the SAP HANA file systems should reside on separate VMDK files.
