Persuasive Text: The Truth Shall Set You Free

By: Franco Luis A. Domingo

The society that we live in today is filled with lies. The truth is seldom
used. Whenever the truth is spilled, it is usually shocking or surprising
to the person. "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you
free" is that the truth? Or will it just cause us pain and heartbreak?

An example of truth is found in us when we were young. When we

were kids, we all believe that Santa Clause is real. I mean, who didn’t,
right? We all made our own gift list that we wanted for Christmas and
we even left cookies and milk for him. One day, I had this argument
with a friend of mine when I was 7 years old. He told me that Santa is
just a made up character to entertain children. At first, I can’t accept
the fact that he is not real. It felt like I’ve been living a life full of lies.
Then I realized that he is not actually real. I even spent time searching
in the internet if he is real. As I grow up, I embraced the fact that Santa
Clause isn’t real.

The truth may hurt but it will never be hidden forever. It is better to
live with the hurtful truth than the comforting lies that this society is
giving us. The phrase "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall
make you free." is such an iconic line. No matter how old this phrase is,
the meaning never changed. It is simple yet straight to the point.
Knowing the truth does set our confused hearts and minds free. It
might hurt us, but as time goes by, we will learn on how to embrace
and live with it.
