THE LAHORE FORT TOUR

Pak studies report
Report on the visit to Lahore fort
First of all I wanted to say it was a Blast going there with my class mates and teachers. It was
well organized, fun and overall an amazing experience. Our start meet up point was Thokar,
outside university of Lahore (old campus) at around 7:30 AM. We all moved from there and
headed towards the Lahore fort. The journey was fun and a bonding experience with those
around us. When we arrived we were fascinated by the majestic site… a fort around 600+ years
old. It was truly an eye opener, from there onwards we were greeted by the “Rangila Riksha’s” a
motor riksha which consists of 3 seats (6 person seater). From there on wards we headed to see
the Picture Wall.

Lahore fort’s picture wall

It is known to be the world’s largest picture wall. Let me tell you a little about the
picture wall. Its 1,450 feet stretch of the northwestern original fortification wall of
Lahore Fort. Built by the Mughal Emperor Akbar almost 400 years ago, it was
later enlarged by Jahangir and then Shah Jahan completed it in 1631-32 AD. This
wall represents the artistic impressions and characteristics of three Mughal
emperors. Together with the Shah Burj Gate, this wall forms the original entrance
to the Lahore Fort and actually can be called as a curtain wall.
From there we headed off to the Fort, the fortress is located at the northern end
of walled city Lahore, and spreads over an area greater than 20 hectares. It contains
21 notable monuments, some of which date to the era of Emperor Akbar. The
Lahore Fort is notable for having been almost entirely rebuilt in the 17th century,
when the Mughal Empire was at the height of its splendor and opulence.

From there had a guide tour explaining us the history and background of the places
we visit. We even went to Charhar–bagh. The place where the king sat and
wrote down poetry.

From there we entered the

Sheesh Mahal.

It is situated at the west corner of Lahore fort which is the area of Shah Burj block.
In the era of Mughal King Shah Jahan, this beautiful structure was built in the year
1631 to 1632. Finest quality mirrors (transported from Palestine) were used in its
decoration with white marbles. It was specially designed area for the Royal Family
and espically for the king’s wife. Then from there we entered
The Summer palace

A basement which is a cool place with a never ending maze of directions, it was
huge and the echoes were loud, it was surprising as the ventilation in this place is
soo interesting that this place stays cool the whole year.
From there our tour ended and we all headed off to the Food Street which was
beautiful as well, the whole tour was amazing other than the fact that it was Hot as
Hell. But it was a memorable, truly amazing and astonishing site. And finally I just
want to say Thanks to people involved in this tour and to Our Miss Arooj who
planned and organized the tour for us.
