JOB DESCRIPTION

DESIGNATION : Deputy Manager (R & D)


REPORTING TO : Administratively to Head-Opr. (Location)
Functionally to Head – Opr. (Bavla & Vapi)

1. To work towards cost cutting and quality improvement in some of the existing
products, as and when required.

2. To ensure that lab scale synthesis and validation report as per URL system is
documented before piloting / commercialization of the technology.

3. To study and characterize impurity profiles consisting of inorganic, organic by-


products, left over reagents, volatile impurities, metal residues of catalysts, potential
degradents in the finished API’s and suggest improvements in the route of synthesis
and process to meet market requirements.

4. To study impurity profiles in intermediates and suggest improvements to improve


yield and quality.

5. To review stability study of API with respect to important parameters and suggest
ways of improvement in process incase stability results are not up to the mark.

6. To prepare pert chart on the committed timeline, to enable project monitoring, and
to inform superiors incase of delays.

7. To co-ordinate with Purchase department during RM indent stage, and Marketing


department for customer specs inquiries.

8. To budget and control capital consumable expenses likely to be incurred during the
year, and inform on the likely deviation to superiors.

9. To provide cost sheets for each R&D project, giving details of stage wise raw
material consumptions.

10. To provide inputs during product failure and deviation investigations in plant
operations, as and when needed.

11. To make sure that synthesis of impurities are done as per needs of the customers (till
impurity synthesis group is in place).
12. To provide inputs to plant operations for improvements of existing products, as
needed.

13. To ensure that each department staff and oneself clock minimum 52 hours of
training per year on various aspects of management , competency and skill
development areas as per training need analysis.

14. To carryout periodic appraisal of the group personnel for their merit rating and
participate in the recruitment, selection training and development of employees of
the department including preparation of job description.

15. To make sure that all staff working under you follow the laid down systems and
procedures and continuously stress on formalizing written procedures to carry out
all activities

16. To carryout S.W.O.T. analysis of your department and lay down short term and long
term objectives for improvement under acknowledgement of your superiors.To be
responsive on tasks / assignments given, and be proactive in alerting the concerned
persons in advance of the likely delay with its reasons.

17. To ensure maintenance of record of Books, Files, Registers, Floppies, etc. depending
upon usage. List of such filing / records shall be prepared in order of convenient
identification. To give instructions to all staff to be highly proficient in maintaining
them up to date.

18. To ensure strict adherence towards Technology Security Systems developed


to control leakage of confidential information.

19. As Deputy Manager (R&D), carry out such jobs and other connected or
incidental jobs, which are necessary due to exigencies of companies work and
business requirements. Also to carry out such jobs those are within
capabilities and / or work in any other post that may be temporarily
assigned.
