Q.1 Problem Statement: A firm has a setup of manufacturing consumable items

that are consumed by common people. The products are categorized among Cheap,
Average and Costly. The firm has Ware houses at different locations and keeping
sufficient repository. The sales managers provide sufficient feedback to the
stakeholders for production, storage and manufacturing needs. The forecasting is
based on the sales of the items.
During the entire process firm is having problem related to available
repository, efficient forecasting, production planning and to identify the products
having good sales, average sales and low sales. At this point the firm decided to
automate all aspect related to the manufacturing, production planning, storage and
supply.

As a system analyst you have to identify the following for the firm:

1) The type of Hardware needed by the system: -

Generally all the requirements
require almost same hardware as described as following-

● Server Hardware Components – will describe the IT equipment needed that

will be located within a server room typically enclosed in a server rack.
● Process Control Components – control hardware such as process controllers,
I/O, distribution switches, and motor control centers.
● Virtual System Components – virtual servers, operating systems, and require
software

Now further dividing the hardware types we need:

Layer 3 Core Switch: A secured manufacturing network will be segmented into
several VLANs so a layer 3 switch will be needed. We recommend selecting a
layer 3 switch that is managed, has 48 gigabit ports, and is capable of fiber optic
up-links with the appropriate SFP.
48 Port Patch Panel: All Ethernet runs must be terminated at the patch panel. This
includes Ethernet cables from the servers inside the server rack. This will help to
keep the cabling runs neat and at proper lengths.
Rack Mount LCD Console Tray: The console tray will provide direct video and
keyboard access to the equipment in the server rack. This will be needed during the
initial setup or when an issue is encountered and remote desktop is not available.
Convenience Power Strip: The convenience power strip will provide a place to
plug in a laptop or some instrumentation needed to help troubleshoot a piece of
equipment in the rack.
Virtual Machine Host Server(s): The host server(s) are the powerhouses of the
virtual environment. If you try to cut costs on the host machine it will have long
term effects on the performance and capacity of your control system. The host
machine will be the server that runs all of the virtual servers on your process
control system. You also have some configuration options based on your particular
requirements.
Server Rack: The server rack will hold the server and switch hardware as well as
manage the Ethernet cables needed to connect the components together. You will
require at least a 24U x 19” server rack.
UPS: If the facility does not have a centralized UPS system then you will likely
require a UPS in the server rack so that in the event of a power outage your servers
will not shut down unexpectedly.
Scanner: Basic model scanner is required to scan bath lot of the products and
consumables.

Barcode Printers: are required to faster delivery of the products to the storage
facility and organizing the particular type of product according to its popularity,
cost price and needs.

2) The type of OS and software needed by the firm.

Selection of operating system depends on
• Hardware compatibility • Further supporting from operating system developers •
To be user friendly • Upgrade facility (service packs) •automation software •
Supporting software’s for automation software
So here are some of the OS we can use:

Various commercial and open source automation software is available. Criteria for
automation software selection.
• Vision or objectives of automation
• Who has developed the software? Whether company, institute or an individual?
• Availability of revisions time period
• Available modules
• Capacity of the facility, Compatible Z39.50 to retrieve & import data from other
databases
In conclusion:
For databases use-
SQL Server 2014 (Express Edition, Standard Edition, Business Intelligence
Edition, Enterprise Edition)
For server file handler: -
We recommend to use Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012 or
Windows Server 2012 R2 as file server.
for virtualization use-
VMware ESX version 4, 4.1, 5, 5.1 and 5.5
Microsoft Hyper-V

3) The networking need for the firm.

Networking is required to interconnect the computers, computer peripherals,
switches to share the information. The intension of the network is to
distribute information among the interconnected users. The network mainly
consist of three components i.e. transmission media, mechanism of control
and interface unit to the network. Type of network is depends on
requirement of the users or objective of the organization to provide the
database access to the users. Local Area Network (LAN) is useful to access
the library database within the organization.
Wide Area Network (WAN) is required to provide the access facility to outside of
the organization
Cloud Network when we use the database on cloud.
4) The database structure and tables required.
Say for example Arrays, Linklist, Stacks - you must be using it in your
automation and also the sorting algorithms.

data structures and algorithms, that will give you multiple options to solve
problems. While designing your automation you want to use a structure but
you don't know about linked list or any other structure except array then you
will always use the array but may be linked list was the better choice in that
case.

Same goes for sorting algorithms, if know only one then that's best for you
in every case but if you know others you will which sorting is best in which
case. working on some graphs based automation and used all paths
algorithms to find all paths in a graphs so you may never when it comes
handy.

5) The security features required by the firm.

Automated unit, integration and acceptance tests are essential quality controls in
running a reliable continuous integration or continuous delivery pipeline.
Too often, security tests are left out of this process because of the erroneous
belief that security testing is solely the domain of leather-jacket-wearing
security experts.
These are essentially the same as automated acceptance tests, but targeted at
verifying that security features such as authentication and logout, work as
expected. They can mostly be automated using existing acceptance testing
browser automation tools like Selenium/WebDriver.

Q.3 Write ten points regarding the impact of green computing on society.

Green Computing refers to the art of utilizing computing resources in an efficient

and eco-friendly, sustainable manner. In recent years, this practice has drawn
serious attention both from Educational Institutions, environmental organizations
and the corporate and business sector. In the current trend, ―going greenǁ has
become an agenda for the IT industries in terms of public relations and reduced
costs. Green computing focuses on the triple bottom line of economic viability,
social responsibility, and environmental impact. It differs from traditional business
practices that focus mainly on economic viability of a computing solution. The
term ―Green Computingǁ came into existence after the ―Energy Star
Programmeǁ by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, in the year 1992. It
was a voluntary labeling program, designed to promote energy-efficiency in
hardware of all kinds. A similar program was also conducted in Europe and Asia
later on. The manufacturing industries contribute directly to pollution, whereas
the IT industries have a hidden impact on environmental pollution caused by
unconscious consumption of power and inefficient use of hardware devices.
Hence, the main motto of green computing is to explore the reasons and find the
solution of this indirect adverse effect on environment. In a world where business
is transacted 24x7 across every possible channel available, companies and
organizations need to collect, store, track and analyze enormous volumes of
data—everything from clickstream data and event logs to mobile call records and
more. But this all comes with a cost to both businesses and the environment. Data
warehouses and the sprawling data centres that house them use up a huge amount
of power, both to run huge number of servers and to cool them. IT industry has
begun to address energy consumption in the data center through a variety of
approaches including the use of more efficient cooling systems, virtualization,
blade servers and storage area networks. But a basic problem persists in the path of
achieving sustainability. As data volumes explode, traditional, appliance-centric
data warehousing approaches can only continue to throw more hardware at the
problem, which can negate the green-gains attained previously through the
modern-trending approaches.

Impacts of Green Computing

● Green IT ensures the diversity and productiveness of the biological
systems since it reduces negative impact of the processes through
green use, design, disposal and green manufacturing.
● It not only ensures the environmental and social sustainability but
also economic sustainability which is necessary for the survival of
human beings.
● Green computing is a powerful approach to utilize resources such as
office space, data centers, computers, heat, light, electrical power etc.
in an environmental friendly way.
● Since you’re utilizing resources efficiently through green computing,
there is a significant saving in the total operational costs.
● Green computing is a big hand for the businesses to improve their
corporate image by meeting compliance and regulatory requirements.
It also a good way to meet sustainability demands of the customers
and employees.
● It will also reduce risks of using life challenging materials being used in IT.

● It will help to develop efficient Power Management System for IT.

● It will promote us to not to use form of CDs, DVDs etc. which may further
become the part of e-waste.
● It will guide us to develop harmless signal transmission on wireless devices
and also provide best programming practices to develop ecofriendly
software.
● It will create new standards and policy to encourage Green World.
