Additional Practice for Unit 3 Quiz

So we know that the exterior angle sum of all regular polygons is 360 degrees which is a full rotation.
To find the exterior angle outside of the polygon we divide the number of sides into 360. This is true
for all polygons so being that this is a pentagon it has 5 sides, so 360/5= 72 degrees. Now since there
are 5 rotations to make the 360 degrees the possibilities to map a regular pentagon onto itself are the
following:

72 degrees – 1 exterior rotation

144 degrees – 2 exterior rotations

216 degrees – 3 exterior rotations

288 degrees – 4 exterior rotations

360 degrees – 5 exterior rotations

If your choices on a test should say…

A) 100
B) 85
C) 144
D) 90

The answer would be 144 because it is one of the degrees that will map the pentagon onto itself. Once
again if any of the other degrees are present such as 72, 144, 216, 288, 360, then either one will map
the regular pentagon onto itself.
