Washington A 6-month-old pit bull that was buried under a pile of rubble for more than a week after
a tornado ripped through a central Illinois city has been coaxed to freedom wih hot dogs and reunited
with his owner.

Jacob Montgomery,a member of the Illions National Guard, was separated from the dog,
Dexter,when the November 17 tornado destroyed his third floor partement in Washington.
Montgomery combet through the wreckage multiple times but turned up no sign of Dexter.

Nine days after the strom,a neighbour who was looking fot this cat, also missing, with the help of a
group called Rescuing Animals in Need,sent Montgomerya Facebook message to tell him Dexter had
been found partially buried in debris where te apartemen building used to stand.

He said,’’I’ve got your dog right here,’’Montgomery recalled in a statementreleased by the IIlions
National Guard.”As son as Dexter saw me,his tail started going.”The pooch was in relatively good
shape.”Te vet said he has no real injuries-just a few scrapes and cuts,”said Montgomery,who got Dexter
as a puppy to keep him company when he moved from Champaign.”He was malnourished, but he’s
going to be fine.”

Six US Soldiers Die in Helicopter Crash

 Six U.S. soldires were killed in a helicopter crasg in southern Afghanistan on Tuesday,NATO said, the
largest death toll in a single incident to hit the internasional force in months,Reuters reports.

“ The cause of the crash is under investigation ,however, intial reporting indicate there was no
enemy activity in the area at the time,”a NATO statement said.

U.S. defense officials said the soldiers killed in the crash, which occurred in Afghanistan southern
zabul province, wee American.One peson survived the crash but suffered injuries.

Zabul’s deputy overnor, Mohammad Jan Rasulayar, said a crash had taken place in the shah Joy
distruc of Zabul.

A tliban spokesman clamaied on Twitter thst Taliban militans had shot down a helicopter on
Tuesday in the same distric. The Taliban often claims responbility for incidients in which it is not
involved.

Aircraft crashes are not uncommon in mountainous Afghanistan.

The worst such incidient was in Agust 2011 when the Taliban shot down a transport helicopter
killing all 38 people on board including about 43,000 from the United States foregin forces are looking
to curtuail their decade-long fight there.

The United States continues to press Afghan president Hamid Karzai to sign a bilateral security deal
that would allow Washington to keep some troops in Afghanistan beyond the end of next year.
