Chapter 1

INTRODUCTION
Food is the number one needs of human in every day’s life. People loves to eat foods or
snacks especially when they are stress nor hungry. Nowadays, there are many kinds of foods or
snacks that are being sold to the market or everywhere. Some of that foods or snacks are cheap
and others are luxurious. Cheap snacks are easy to sold in the marketplace than the luxurious one
especially when the kind of marketplace is poor. Consumers look on where they can buy foods
that are cheap price but it can have satisfied their hunger.

Statement of the Problem


This study intends to develop a “Buko Langka Empanada” that have health benefits.
Nowadays, there are so many foods or snacks that are not good to our health People eat any kind
of foods or snacks without looking to its nutritional value that benefits their body health. There
are a lots of foods that are very popular and luxurious but do not have nutritional benefits or to
little nutritional value. Careless snacking may lead someone’s life to some illnesses like head
ache, stomach ache, fatigue, obesity and other specially junk foods. One of the most Favorite of
the Filipino is eating street foods like fish ball, kikiam, kwek kwek, cheese roll, squid balls and
other.
Coconut meat is a part of coconut fruit which contains with nutritional value and benefits
for the health.it help to eliminate the parasites in our body and support our immune system. This
can also balance blood sugar level and reduced of heart disease. And there are a lots of health
benefit we can get from coconut meat. Lanka or Jackfruit is a tropical fruit which is full of
nutrients such as vitamin A, vitamin C, thiamin, riboflavin, calcium, potassium, phosphorus,
iron, sodium, zinc and niacin. Jackfruit benefits help to improves immunity, ensures a better
cardiovascular health and a regulated blood pressure, improves digestion, prevents cancer,
strengthens bones improves blood quality and other.

Objectives of the Study


This study aims to develop a Buko Langka Empanada. Specifically, it aims to determine
the ff. objectives:
1. Materials and ingredients in developing a “Buko Langka Empanada”.
2. Procedures in making “Buko Langka Empanada”.
3. Nutritional content and health benefits of “Buko Langka Empanada”
4. Acceptability of “Buko Langka Empanada” in terms of texture, taste, aroma,
acceptability.
Significance of the Study
The importance of the study is to develop a snack which is Buko Langka Empanada
where in it has many health benefits that the people needs to their body health. This study helps
and benefit to all the people including the children, teens, older people and consumers. This
study also shows that there are a lots of nutrients value in this snack that are essential to our
health.

Scope and Delimitation of the Study


This study includes the development of Buko Langka Empanada. The study is focus on
determining which treatment, it’s either only Buko filling, only Langka Filling, or both Buko and
Langka Filling is the best and acceptable to the consumers.

Definition of Terms
Coconut meat – it is a part of coconut fruit which is contains with nutritional value and
benefits for the health.
Jackfruit - is a kinds of fruit which is full of nutrients such as vitamin A, vitamin C,
thiamin, riboflavin, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, iron, sodium, zinc and niacin that are our
body needs.
Empanada – it is a snack that may eat by children, teens, and older people. It can also be
prepared for any celebration or occasions.
