.....These are the questions I could remember... Please some body add in the
list....
[1:22 PM, 10/9/2018] Hamdi: Dear colleagues on Sunday I gave Paper 2 of the
KAPS in Australia (I tried it in April, but passed only paper 1), here the
questions/topics I remember.

Overall there were very few questions about compounding/dosage forms.

Calculation exercise were probably around 10, but I had only exercise with
general pharmaceutical calculation: dilution e concentration, electrolyte
solutions.. they weren’t very difficult, but I was a bit disappointed because I
studied pharmacokinetics A LOT and I didn’t have any exercise about it (Vd, Css,
T1/2, Maintenance dose, Loading dose, Clearance).

Anyway here are the questions I remember:

• Question where to choose which of the 4 laxatives given could give

dependence. I answered Bisacodyl but I’m not sure if correct.
• Another question about laxative safe in pregnancy
• Question where to choose wihich of the 4 was NOT a side effect of tricyclic
antidepressants
3

• Question were to choose which drug could interact with warfarin

• Question about Vd. Don’t remember exactly the question, but it was similar to
number 8 in paper 2 of 2014 (what does it mean if the value is big or small).
• A few questions about antibiotics (one was about vancomycin)
• One question about role of Chlorohexidine in eye drops.. (in choice there was
preservative)
• Many more questions about side effects and some about drugs interactions
• Phenytoin was in many questions, so I would suggest to study it very well
(particularly side effects and interactions)
• A couple of questions about seizures
• One questions bout NSAIDs. Something like “a patient that was already taking X
(don’t remember the NSAIDs) is prescriber by doctor Ibuprofen (not sure) for pain
in his elbow”. Basically to choose if give Ibuprofen, suggest to just keep taking X
or suggest a new NSAIDs… I have no idea which one was the answer.
• A question about the duration of Insulin (similar to question 2 paper 2 2015).
• Question about use of citrate in oral rehydration: to compete alkalosis (same as
question in test of Dr Islam Gawdat practice test website)
• Question about what was the best way to sterilize a drug (I don’t remember
which)

That’s all I can remember unfortunately..

I pray we all passed, good luck to everyone!

*There was a basic question on osmosis..

*A diabetic insipidus patient will not respond to: - options were related to ADH
*Question based on prescription formulation
4

*Percentage of sodium in NaHCO3, molecular weight was given. Similar question

for Fe in a molecule, molecular weight was given
*One mM formula question
*mMole
*In which of the following situations you would take the person to emergency
department? Ingestion of 20ml pesticide
*One calculation was on FD1%, one was from minimum weighable quantity
*U have 30kg of 20% powder, how much lactose is needed to dilute it to make it
5%
*t1/2 definition
*Dilution questions
*One question was like u are given concentration of an injection, and clearance
was given, then if iv infusion is given then how much time to reach steady state
*Role of starch in tablets
*Which of the following will not be helpful in treating COPD, then an option
included some lozenges

*Essential fatty acids: Essential fatty acids (EFAs) are required in amounts
equalling 6 to 10% of fat
intake (equivalent to 5 to 10 g/day).
15 12 9
COOH

Alpha-Linolenic Acid (omega-3)
They include -6 (n-6) fatty acids are linoleic acid (cis-9, 12-octadecadienoic acid)
and arachidonic acid
(cis-5, 8,11,14-eicosatetraenoic acid) and -3 (n-3) fatty acids are linolenic acid (cis-

octadecatrienoic acid), cis-5, 8,11,14,17-eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and cis-

4,7,10,13,16,19-
docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).
EFAs must be provided by the diet. Vegetable oils provide linoleic acid and
linolenic acid, and marine
fish oils provide eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid. However, some
EFAs can be made
from others. For example, the body can make arachidonic acid from linoleic acid,
and eicosapentaenoic
acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic (DHA) acid can be partially synthesized from
linolenic acid, although
fish oil is a more efficient source.

Also there is a question calculating the sensitivity for a 5% error. Ans (100 mg).
The rule is 20 times the sensitivity which is (100 mg)
They were direct except for percentage and conversion calculation.
Also there was a question about what causes Imeptigo the ans is staph aureus
and streptococcus pyogens.
