Introduction

I. Background of the study

All people know that farming is not easy. A famers need to

put money and time on it and the farmer need to learn allot to be successful

in this kind of business. That’s why the researcher chose this topic so she

can discuss the benefits of the combine harvester that will surely help the

farmers.

Harvest is the last stage of crop production in the field and it

affects the output and quality of grain. If the crop is not harvested in time

grain losses and it will be increased due to not even or too much ripening,

damaged by rats, birds, insect, wind and rain. Harvesting the rice in time

ensure good grain quality, higher market price and consumer acceptance

with less damage grain. When the rice is milled and higher germination rate.

The trailed combines have been made and introduced in 1935, and self-

propelled combines might be used in USA to harvest rice crop in wet paddy

fields condition. The field of rice crop and straw would be double quantities

of materials so that the system and running parts of the rice harvester

should be considered and designed to meet the needs.

II. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Being a farmer is surely hard and challenging. The harvesting is the

last part of product in the field. It need allot f work and time, but today it

can be less work, Because of the advance technology like a combine

harvester. The combine harvester can help the farmers in harvesting and it

will not cost so much work.

A. Is it challenging to be a farmer?

B. Do the weather affects the production of the rice?

C. What are the different tools and equipment that you think that

will fasten your work?

D. What do a farmer prefer to use? The usual style of harvesting

that required allot of labor or the combine harvester that will

lessen your work as a farmer?

III. SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

The study compile the weakness about the substitution of halimaw

machine in harvesting.

The researcher will focus only in the farmers of Brgy. Lual farmer to

easily identify their reaction about the substitution of halimaw machine or

the combine harvester in harvesting. One of the weakness is the

unemployment because if the harvester can do all the work the workers of

the farmer is no longer needed. And the gas that is use in operating the

combine harvester will cost to the farmer .

IV. IMPORTANCE OF THE STUDY

For the researcher it will help the farmers to easily finish the

work. The farmers will not be soaked the heat of the sun. The farmers will

have more time to rest and avoid sleekness. The farmers will have more

time in to their family. Also the world is changing ,Time will come that all

farmers will use some of the advance technology like the combine harvester.
V. DEFINITION OF TERMS

Here are the key terms or phrase used in this study

that should be define.

 Combine Harvester – The modern combine harvester

or simply combine is a machine design to efficiently harvest

a variety of crops. Combining six operations such as

gathering, transporting, reaping, threshing, cleaning and

bagging into one machine

 Analysis- detailed examination of the elements or

structure of something. Short for psychoanalysis

 Consumption- The using of a resource, an amount of

something which is used up, the purchase and use of goods

and service by the public, the reception of information or

entertainment by a mass audience.

 Implementation- the process of putting a decision of

plan into effects

 Soaked-Make or allow something to become thoroughly

wet by immersing it in liquid.

CHAPTER 2

I. Review of Related Literature

In this part of the researcher represent the review of related literature

which support the substitution of halimaw machine in harvesting in Barangay

Lual.

According to ADAMCOM.PH the rice combine harvester makes the

harvesting process easier by combining six operation such as gathering ,
transporting ,reaping , threshing , cleaning and bagging into one machine .
It is a modern and efficiently way of harvesting rice. It also provides our
farmers comport in operation and easier in maintaining the farmers
machine. With a rice combine harvester, farmers have the power to harvest
at the farmers own fine of choosing. No need to wait for available labor and
no need to worry about approaching typhoons.

It also increase in come because of reduction of grain loss from 10%

to less than 1%. Reduction of labor cost only 3 people required from original

12 people. Harvester capacity is 4 to 5 hectors per day. Harvester can work

in knee deep mud and extremely dry field.

In the study of ADAMCO.PH it can support the research positively.

The ADAMCO.PH discuss the advantage that the farmers can get in using the
Halimaw Machine for harvesting. In the 1920s John Deere made combines
and these were starting to be tractor pulled with a second engine aboard the
combine to power it workings. The farmers need workers that will reap your
rice field that will cost 2,000 pesos.

Besides of that the workers you need n threshing and blower for

that the farmers will give the 10 sacks if the farmers harvest 100 sacks. But

in the Halimaw Machine the farmer will be needing two or three only.
II. RELATED STUDY

In this part the researcher will present the related study about the

Substitution of Halimaw Machine in harvesting in Baranggay Lual.

The researcher Jesreal Medrana ,Kristine Villanueva , Darrin Jon

Tinduwen student of University of San Louis ,Philippines.

The researcher focused on “Rice Combine : Its effects to the livelihood of

rice-field tenants in a second class municipality.

The research design for this study was qualitative for it utilized interview

to gather the necessary design focused on insight or perception of

individuals of the phenomena. Under qualitative design the types of

approach in this study was phenomenological research for it discovers the

meaning of peoples life experience, giving the perception of a particular

phenomenon. This study focused on the impact of rice combine harvester to

the livelihood of the rice field tenants. The location of this study is

conducted in Amulung a second class municipality of Cagayan. The said

municipality was selected for most of its agricultural land specially its portion

engaged in rice production are already being predominated by mechanical

farming equipment and for that research it needs now a special attention.

The participants of this research were 25 rice fields tenants from Amulung ,

purposive sampling through site selection approach and networking was

utilized following this set of criteria: must be at least 20 years old and must

be verified resident of Amulung.

The consequence of the rice combine harvester to the lives of the of the

rice field tenants in Amulung , Cagayan. Loss of livelihood or unemployment

is only one of the consequence that the researcher encounter. The result of

the interview showed that all of the participants recognized that rice

combine harvester as a modern way of harvesting is not favorable to the

tenants lives. Considering the fact that one of their sources of income comes

from manual harvesting the integration of rice combine harvester then

automatically impaired their livelihood since this modern machine have

replace their primitive system of harvesting.

The solution that the government of Cagayan is alternative activities

sought by the rice field tenants in Amulung , Cagayan. In order to cope with

the prevalence of rice combine harvester. Engagement in informal sector

economy the government of Cagayan also engage planting crops other that

rice. Vegetables as crops that can be easily planted and grow in the tenants

backyards or in any other fertile and spacious land.

v. Research Design

This chapter provides an interview of the research design that the

researcher use in the study about the substitution of combine harvester in

harvesting in Baranggay, Lual using the phenomenology and the data

gathering method that the researcher use is interview.

The researcher choose the phenomenology research design. Because

phenomenology is something that cannot be measured but can only be

experienced. Like in this study the researcher will discuss the experience of

the farmer in harvesting by knowing the farmers say about the substitution

of combine harvester in Baranggay , Lual. The researcher can explore and

know more about the study. Some other researcher use phenomenology and

their data gathering method are the same like the researcher. The

researcher focus on “Rice Combine Harvester; Its effects to the livelihood of

rice-field tenants in a Second Class Municipality”. The researcher choose the

phenomenology , Because it focused on sights or perception of individuals of

the phenomenon under investigation it discover the perception of a

particular phenomenon.
III. Sampling Procedure

In this part the researcher will discuss on how the researcher will derive

the sample size. What sampling derive will the researcher use in the study

about the substitution of halimaw machine in Barangay Lual, Infanta

Quezon.

In conducting an interview the question that the researcher will ask

should be clear and easy to understand. When the researcher will ask the

farmer the researcher will choose word that is easy to understand. The

researcher choose the convenience because convenience it’s a type of non-

probability sampling. The respondent are selected just because they are

easiest to recruit for the study and the researcher consider selecting

respondent that are cooperating with the interview.

CHAPTER 3

I. Locale of the study

In this part of the researcher will present the locale of the study about the

substitution of the combine harvester in harvesting in Baranggay Lual

farmers.

The researcher will conduct in Baranggay Lual , Infanta Quezon. The said

village was selected by the researcher because its agricultural land engage

in using the combine harvester.

VI. Research Instrument

In this chapter the researcher will discuss the research technique that

will best gather the data and information need in the study about the

substitution of the combine harvester in Baranggay , Lual.

The researcher choose interview in gathering data, because interview

are most effective for qualitative research. It can help the researcher to

explain and understand better the respondent also explain the respondent

opinion and experiences. Interview question are usually open-ended

question so that in-depth information will be collected. It has so many

advantages, because in interview the researcher can also ask for further

question to the respondent to get full data and information the researcher

van ensure that the question is fully understood and most of the data that is

gather through interview are detailed and good quality. It can be time

consuming but it is low cost.

ACTUAL QUESTION;

1. How is the harvest?

2. Is it true that being a farmer is hard?

3. Do you agree in the substitution of halimaw machine in harvesting? Why?

4. What are the lessons CHAPTER 3

you get in farming that you like to share with your children?
IV. Variable

In this chapter the researcher will present the relationship between two

variable independent and dependent. The independent variable are the

Baranggay , Lual farmers and the dependent variable is the analysis of

halimaw machine as a substitution in harvesting.

I. Summary

In this chapter the researcher will discuss the result of the study about

the substitution of halimaw machine in harvesting in Baranggay Lual.

The researcher conducted an analysis about the substitution of

halimaw machine in harvesting. The researcher ask the farmers about it and

the main question of the researcher is do the farmers agree in the

substitution of halimaw machine in harvesting. The 8 out of 15 respondent

said yes with the substitution of halimaw machine, Because halimaw

machine lessen the work and the cost of the farmer. It also help the farmers

to save money and it can be used in knee deep mud that will save the

harvest through storm. The 7 out of 15 respondent said no to the

substitution of halimaw machine in harvesting , Because it my leed to

unemployment of the small farmers or the tenants of the rice-field. Because

the halimaw machine can do all the work in harvesting so the owner of the

farmer will choose the halimaw machine.

II. Conclusion

This part will show the conclusion of the researcher about the

substitution of halimaw machine in harvesting.

Being a farmer is indeed hard and challenging. Every decision that a

farmer do should be good for the rice-field. In the world people live on

today, the climate every person experience makes the work of the famer

much harder. But by the help of the halimaw machine it can be lessen and

low cost. And maybe one day a person can invent a machine that can plant

in the rice-field. This can help the farmers, but other farmers are worried

about the worker that can loss their job. Because the halimaw machine do

the job of the worker already.

III. Recommendation

The recommendation of the researcher for the workers and tenants that will

loss the job. The halimaw machine should only use if a storm is coming and

if the time come that all of the farmers use the halimaw machine. The

government should give the workers and tenant of the rice field. An

alternative job. The government can orient the tenant on how to operate the

halimaw machine. The government can give a way so atleast one member of

the family of the tenant can have a training on TESDA on how to operate the

halimaw machine or give the tenant some other job that can fit on.
VI. Validation

In this part the researcher will show the result of the interview. Base on

the answers on the respondents about the substitution of halimaw machine

in Barangay Lual. The result is shown in the table below.

RESPONDENT YES NO

9 out of farmers said Yes in substitution of halimaw machine in

harvesting. They agree because it lessen the cost, and it doesn’t cost that

much. And the farmers already try the halimaw machine and it’s very

satisfying. The money that the farmers save will be given in their child.
7 out of is said no. The farmers said that they don’t have enough

knowledge about the said machine. The other farmers said that if they use

the halimaw machine the worker of tenant of the field will lost their job

because the halimaw machine do their job and the farmer don’t want that

they give importance to their workers. The farmers said that it is much

beautiful to see bunch of people working together with a smile in their face

in a rice field done a machine working alone on a field.
