DEATH PENALTY:

SHOULD DEATH PENALTY BE ESTABLISHED AGAIN OR NOT?

Death penalty is a kind of punishment in which they apply death as a requital for
the heinous crimes that the criminal/s have done. Death penalty abuses the human rights, church
beliefs and fair justice.

As I, one of the citizens of a democratic country, the Philippines, receiving the

fruit of freedom to have human rights that be acknowledged. Death penalty is now violating the
right live of someone who commit a restriction under the law. Based on Article 2: Right to life
states that “This means that nobody, including the Government, can try to end your life. It also
means the Government should take appropriate measures to safeguard life by making laws to
protect you and, in some circumstances, by taking steps to protect you if your life is at risk.”
With this, I can say that no one has the power to kill someone even what have he/she has done,
what matters most is the life that valued.

The only one who can get your life is the one who gave it to you, therefore, us
humans have no right to kill someone as God as the only one who’s allowed to do that. As a part
of religious organization in Parish of Saint Martin of Tours, taught us The Ten Commandments
given by the Lord to Moses. “You shall not murder”, were it is one in the ten Commandments by
the Lord. God values life highly. He tells us to choose life: “I call heaven and earth as witnesses
today against you, that I have set before your life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore
choose life, that both you and your descendants may live”. It only says that you should not kill
someone’s life and love each other as how I loved you.

We, the sovereign Filipino people, receiving the blessing of independence under
the rule of law and under the fair justice. In the country, Philippines, we have 2 types of Judicial
Department namely the Low Court and the Supreme Court. The low court have the power to judge
a case but the supreme court has the highest power to judge a case where that judgement is no
one can change. I can’t say that their is clean system in todays constitution and because of this
their is a misapplication of that punishment. In 2003, there were 7 children in death row along with
adult convicts (Amnesty International, 2003). The year 2000 saw 5 persons aged 70 or over in
death row (FLAG, 2000, cited in Amnesty International, 2002). These examples show that it is not
always certain whether the right person is convicted and, in this light, the death penalty is too high
a price to pay when innocent people are convicted. With this it showed the injustice way of
implementation of the law were their are different abuse were done.

Death meets people in a right time and death penalty in considered as inhumane.
But the search for a humane way to kill people should be seen for what it really is – an attempt to
make executions more agreeable to the public in whose name they are being carried out, and to
make the governments that execute appear less like killers themselves.
