THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE

Rationale of the Study

Nowadays, people encounter different problems in the society that

is difficult for them to solve. As years pass there are problem that they can’t solve

by theirselves. Most problem in the society starts at home. Here in Philippines,

people had problems at home like financial problems, including insects.

Being poor is really hard knowing that every corner of the house have insects,

under the cabinet or behind the door and insects are a great disturbance to

human.Insects are one of the most popular problems in home. One of it are the

Termites that eat woods, Most of the houses here In Philippines are made up of

wood. So there is a big possibility that termites will attack.

A mark-release-recapture study of two C. gestroi field colonies in

Hawaii yielded foraging population estimates of 0.2 million and 0.7 million

termites, and estimated foraging areas of 10.5 m 2 and 287 m 2 , respectively.

These are in the same range as estimates in the Philippines of 60,000 to 1.5

million termites and foraging areas averaging 20 m 2.

Why do termites like woods? Because termites has bacterial

protozoa living in their stomachs, these protozoa break down cellulose. Cellulose

is found most abundantly in wood and tree roots. And if you want to buy some

products that lessen termites it will cost a large amount of money ($7 or 357

pesos)
In order to decrease these cases, the researches will make an organic

Termite repellent to lessen the termites that attack their houses, by using organic

materials that will cost only small amount of money, compared to other

termiticide.The product that the researches will make will be safe for humans,for

it is organic and the materials needed is easy to find.

Background of the Study

Termites are colony pests that come in 5 different types. They feed on

cellulose, which means every home has the opportunity to play host to this silent

killer. Termites can appear in any plant or wood materials without any indication

they are there. The termite is specifically designed to tear away tough cellulose

materials, but they will feed on a book just as easily as they’ll feed on cabinetry.

No matter where your home may be located, any or all of types of termites may

be present. Termites are a constant, ongoing threat in every season. That’s why

it is very important to have a pest control plan that is ready to implement at any

time.

The researchers found a way to lessen the multiply of the termites by

using the organic termite repellent. The product contains Lemon Grass and

Orange Oil. Combining this 2 products can lessen the termites at their individual

homes and society.
