Objective
Students will:
1. Explain how the concept of family for European Americans might vary based
upon each factor as country of origin, date of immigration, socioeconomic conditions
and religion.
2. Elaborate on some steps which educators can utilize to help elevate European
American learners’ self-esteem and cultural identities.
3. How might educators address the history of European Immigration into the U.S.
in a way that fosters multicultural awareness and understanding?
5. Address how some European Americans might have difficulty appreciating the
need for multicultural emphasis in education. What challenges do they face in light
of changing demographics?

End Goal: What future teachers should get out of this presentation is a new
appreciation for the many cultures that make up the “White” demographic. This
information should inspire educators to include aspects of European culture, and use
learning strategies that their students will connect with. They can also use this
information to inspire student to look deeper into both their personal history, and that of
their classmates, promoting a more multicultural classroom.
