I. PROJECT JUSTIFICATION
A. TECHNICAL DEFINITION
Vertical Park - an area for the enjoyment of the public, having facilities for rest and
recreation in multi-storey building.
The proposed project will be a multi-purpose park which cannot only be used as
a place for leisure and daily activities but can also be use as an evacuation building
during calamity and can be a venue for school and work activities with multiple
storey.
One of the effects of climate change is the formation of the extreme weather
conditions which the Philippines had been vulnerable of ,due to its geography and
development. The Philippines which sets in the western Pacific Ocean surrounded with
natural warm waters and added more heat by the sun leading to a stronger and more
frequent storm.Just, last year 2013 the Super Typhoon Yolanda had devastated the
Philippines especially in Tacloban Leyte .
Yolanda had said to had caused strong winds, heavy rainfall and storm surge and
killed more than 6,300 lives, over four million displaced citizens, and $2 billion in
damages in 2013,as per the Climate Realty Project 2016.
1
Considering with the past situations that may also hit in Las Pinas City as being
part of the Philippines a Vertical Park could be a help to serve as an Evacuation Center
during calamities and a place for recreation before and after calamities. As Public Park
and Recreation is as well a need in the City with the present limited land to provide.
The city of Las Piñas had increased of about 40 hectare of land for parks and
recreation in 1985 to 1995, had decrease to 29 hectare in 2011 as per the City Physical
Framework of Parks and Recreation of Las Piñas.And, lands could had contributed to
other land use.The situation leads to having pocket or small lands allotted for parks and
recreation and mostly sets within subdivisions.
How can the proposed project adapt with different use and be functional in a
long run?
