Updating
How to update your Machine Definition, Control Definition, Post Processor, Tool
Libraries, Operations Defaults, Operation Libraries to Mastercam X7.

NOTE:

If you are updating from X5 to X7 use the instructions below by replacing X6 with X5.

If you are updating from X, X2, X3 or X4 you may follow the steps below up to the point
of where your original files are copied from. The X to X4 file locations are described on
the File Locations page. Then follow the rest of the update proceedures.

Create a new Folder on your Desktop;

Right click on your Desktop name the folder X6 to X7.

The new folder is shown below:

Double click to open your new X6 to X7 folder and Right click inside of the X6 to X7
folder. You’ll need to create the directory structure exactly as it is in the Shared
McamX6 directory.

The first folder inside the X6 to X7 folder will be a cnc_machines folder.

Then create a mill folder inside the X6 to X7 folder.
Only create the ones needed. If you do not own Lathe or Wire, it is not needed.

Double click to open the product folder, i.e. Mill, Lathe, Router or Wire.

Right click inside of that folder and select “New Folder”. You’ll need to create the
directory structure exactly as it is in the Shared Mastercam directories.

In this Mill example, the ops, posts and tools folders will be created. This will allow the
update of the Operation Defaults, Post Processor and Tool Libraries. As these are the
only files being updated, these are the only folders necessary in the Mill folder.

Copy only the desired or needed files out of the Shared McamX6 structure and place
them in the Desktop folder in their corresponding locations.

Files from mill/posts should be copied to mill/posts.

Files from cnc_machines, should be copied to cnc_machines. Etc….

By taking the extra few minutes to create our folders properly and copying only the
files the user wants to move from X6 to X7, a clean update can now happen. This
process only updates the files the user wishes to carry over from the previous version.

Select the Search sub-folders check box to allow all of the sub-folders to be processed
as well.

After setting the Source Folder, the destination folder will know the default X7 location, if
not set to the shared Mcamx7 folder, this should be checked and set. Clicking the
Green Check will begin the process of updating the files in the folders and updating the
post processors at the same time.
The Update Folder process will begin. You may see some items pop up and close in
the graphics area, this is normal. As the process ends the Mastercam Code Editor will
open displaying some text information about the post update process. You may just
close that window.

Migration
Can I use the X7 Migration Utility?

If you are migrating your personal settings (\My McamX6) from X6 to X7,
yes you can use the Migration Utility. If you are updating from a version
before X6, the migration utility cannot be used.

However, we do not advise using the Migration Utility for your (\Shared
McamX6) shared files. Some problems may arise if you choose to do this,
please follow the instructions in the “Updating” section of this document to
update your shared files.
