How Does It Work?

ELSDs detect any compound less volatile than the mobile phase using a simple three-step process:

Column effluent passes
through a needle and mixes
with nitrogen gas to form a
dispersion of droplets.
Droplets pass through a heated
“drift tube“ where the mobile
phase evaporates, leaving
a fine mist of dried sample
particles in solvent vapor.
The sample particles pass
through a cell and scatter
light from a laser beam. The
scattered light is detected,
generating a signal.

The Only ELSD with Two Operating Modes Gives You Optimum Performance with Any
Application
Since an ELSD’s response is based on the amount of particles passing through the optical cell, it makes sense that
sending 100% of the column effluent through would net the highest responses. In many cases this is true. Some
samples, such as semi-volatiles may benefit from lower operating temperatures and gas flows achieved by splitting a
portion of the aerosol stream to waste. Only the ELSD 2000ES offers the choice of splitting or not splitting, giving
you optimum sensitivity for every application.

A large column chamber accepts two columns up
to 30cm long and 1⁄2" o.d. plus guard columns. The 6393

chamber is easily accessed without removing the

Based on the EZChrom Elite™ software package,
EZStart™ is the ideal solution for laboratories wanting
a simple-to-use chromatography data system with
comprehensive software features and optional

Operation is reduced to three easy steps:
1. Simple configuration. Collects data from any
