Profession
There are many reasons why I chose Elementary Education as my goal profession, but
the main reason is that I love to work with children. When I first attended college, I wanted to
be an elementary school teacher, but I later realized that they don’t make enough money, so I
changed my major to PharmD. While I was taking PharmD classes, I realized that it wasn’t for
me, and I wanted to go back to Elementary Education. I think what influenced me the most
about becoming a teacher is when I became a cheerleading coach and gymnastics instructor. I
realized that I love educating children and seeing their faces when they accomplish something
is worth every time and effort that you put into them. Being a gymnastics instructor and
cheerleading coach has taught me a lot of patients working with children, and that each child
learns different, so you should try to adapt and accommodate so each child can grasp what
you’re trying to teach them. Also, during my EDU 201 class, I shadowed a teacher for 10 hours.
She was amazing, and she really inspired me to become a teacher just like her, as I loved her
teaching style and the way she was with her students. As I understand it, there are a lot of
complexities with the school system. I know there’s issues where pay is not enough, or there
isn’t enough support from the district, and that there are times where you are restricted on
what you can teach, but that won’t stop me from obtaining my dream: becoming a school
teacher.
Teaching
My hopes are to bring a positive attitude, open mind, and high expectations for each
and every student to accomplish. I owe it to my students to provide a safe and nurturing
environment that will enhance their skills to become model citizens. Lastly, my philosophy is

student centered, as I know each child learns differently, so it’s my goal expound on their gifts
and provide them with the tools and environment to meet each child’s individual needs. The
history of education has taught me many things that I would like to implement into my
classroom. Things such as embracing cultural diversity and making sure every child feels
accepted. Also, one day, I will obtain my National Board of Professional Teaching Standards
certification to show that I am serious about educating children, and I will not be another
Instruction
My goal is to open a door to lifelong learning, so my strategies for instruction will reflect
that. As for instruction, I would like to utilize all sorts of teaching strategies, such as the
discussion and lecture method, brainstorming, hands-‐on projects, using technology, and role
plays. As I stated in my philosophy, that every child learns differently, so I would like to
implement various teaching methods to help each and every one of them. My personal
approach to learning and student diversity is that I would like each child to be able to
understand what I’m trying to teach them and be able to apply it in the future. As for
assessments, I believe assessments can be accomplished every day. Whether that’s asking
open-‐ended questions, quizzes, or student’s reflections, I can gauge on where they are at after
the lesson and see if I need to make any adjustments in the future.
Future
I have lots of hopes, dreams, and aspirations in the future and as an educator. My
hopes are that I will have the power of knowledge to be able to educate children efficiently, so
they can be not only academically successful, but become a model citizen as well. Also, I hope

that my patients will always be my strong suit, as I know that teaching is not easy, and I don’t
want to be burnt out because of the stress associated with it. In order to become the educator
that I want to be, I’m first going to obtain my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. During
my path in obtaining my bachelor’s degree, I hope to pass my Praxis exams and become a
substitute teacher, so I can gain hands-‐on experience. Lastly, I will hopefully obtain my
certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, as that would be my
ultimate goal. It may seem like I have a way to go, but with dedication and motivation, I will
