Description of the Project

1. Rationale:
This is the premise that the researchers would like to study to help promote the
Free Voluntary HIV Counselling and Testing Service as part of HIV/STI
prevention program of the Department of Health. In addition, to provide
education to the residents to submit themselves for Free Voluntary HIV
counselling and Testing.

2. Objectives of the Study

2.1 General:
To determine the effectiveness of Free HIV Counseling and Testing
Service by the Department of Health.

2.2 Specific:
A. What is the extent of knowledge of the residents in Davao City
according to:
a. The availability of Free Voluntary HIV Counselling and Testing
Service.
b. The scientific facts of HIV infection.
c. The transmission of HIV infection.
d. The availability of Antiretroviral Therapy for people living with
HIV.
B. What is the level of awareness of the residents in Davao City
about the availability of Free Voluntary HIV Counselling and
Testing Service?
C. What is the utilization status of Free Voluntary HIV Counselling
and Testing Service?
D. Is there a significant relationship between Free Voluntary HIV
Counselling and Testing Service in the behavior of the residents in
Davao City in terms of utilizing the service?

3. Theoretical Framework
The Health Belief Model is the focus of the study to assert that when a person
believes he or she is susceptible to a health problem with severe consequences,
the person will more likely conclude that the benefits outweigh the barriers
associated with changing one’s behavior to prevent the problem.
