ACTIVITY PROPOSAL

I. TITLE: END OF DENGUE: STARTS WITH ME

II. PROPONENT: BSN-IV Students
III. RATIONALE:
Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral disease that has rapidly spread in all regions
of WHO in recent years. Dengue virus is transmitted by female mosquitoes mainly
of the species Aedes aegypti and, to a lesser extent, Aedes albopictus. This mosquito
also transmits chikungunya, yellow fever and Zika infection. Dengue is widespread
throughout the topics, with local variations in risk influenced by rainfall,
temperature and unplanned rapid urbanization.
Severe dengue was first recognized in the 1950s during dengue epidemics in the
Philippines and Thailand. Today, severe dengue affects most Asian and Latin
American countries and has become a leading cause of hospitalization and death
among children and adults in these regions. After a drop in the number of cases in
2017-18, a sharp increase in cases is being observed in 2019 and this includes the
Philippines.
In Davao City, during the I-Speak Forum held at the City Hall, CHO pest control
worker Melodina Bavante cited the data that dengue fever cases this year were
higher compared to those in 2018. According to CHO, the date revealed that from
last January to June 30 this year, they already recorded 1,121 dengue fever cases
while from January to June in 2018, 645 cases were recorded.
IV. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the activity the participants will be able to:
1. Extend participation of the City Health Office’s information and
education campaign against dengue fever.
2. Promote awareness and concern among the participants to be more
involved and mindful of their community and surroundings.
3. Provide opportunity to learn about dengue and be an advocate to prevent
and control dengue.

At the end of the seminar, students will demonstrate:

1. Early recognition of the defining characteristics of dengue fever.
2. Initiation of information dissemination to the community where he/she belongs.
3. Reporting of any suspected cases to the proper authority
4. Leadership in environmental sanitation, and
5. Understanding of the nature of the disease
