Introduction:
Every cutting tool gets blunt after using for certain period of time. Hence
it needs to be sharpened using grinders or similar devices. In case of a drill,
it needs to be held at certain angle according to the angle of edge of drill.
During grinding, it is very difficult to hold the tool at an angle and survive
the cutting force of grinder simultaneously. so,in this project, we have
designed a jig, which will hold the at certain angle and just by sliding the jig,
a drill can be sharpened very easily.

A sharpened drill bit can give more positional accuracy of drill and
change from chisel to point requires less pressure, which is advantageous for
smaller machines. Also, a sharpened drill generates less heat and wears more
slowly. This jig is specifically designed for tormek grinders, but can also be
adapted for normal bench grinders, with some minor changes in slide plate
attachments.

Construction:
This jig consists of four main parts:

1. Slide Plate

2. Base Plate

3. Base

4. Bush

1. Slide Plate:
The sliding plate has two slote on the bottom side, which are to be tightened
on a circular rod and can be swivelled to desired angle. the top side of slide
plate consists of slots for accomodating the guideways of base plate.

2. Base Plate:

Base plate slides on the top of slide plate with the help of guideways, present
at the bottom of it.

3. Base:

The base is a typical I-section having a bore inside it for accomodating the
bush. The horizontal structure of base act like guideways to slide over the
baseplate. The base can be moved towards or away from the grinding wheel.

4. Bush:

The bush contains a bore of 10mm to contain the drill to be sharpened. It is

fitted in the base so as to bear the cutting forces exerted by grinding wheel.

Working:
• Firstly, a drill is inserted in the bush and fitted using nut. The drill is
brought in contact with the wheel by rotating another nut on the base
and slide plate is swivelled to required angle.

• One edge is made sharp and after grinding is done, the base along
with the bush is inverted and the other edge is grinded.

• Once both the edges are sharpened, the screw on the bush is loosened
and drill is taken out. The drill is ready to use now.

Manufacturing Process:
1. The parts were firstly designed one by one in the CATIA with the
reference of grinder's measurements.

2. The assembly was done virtually in CATIA

3. All the parts were converted into .stl format and G-codes were generated
using cura software. The codes were inserted in 3-D printer and parts were
3-D printed.
