The honorable judges, ladies and gentleman

Good morning.

First of all I would like to say thank you to our almighty god who has given us blessings so that we can be
here in this place at this moment. Secondly, I would like to thank our Rasulullah saw. Who has brought
us from darkness to lightness.

Smartphones has recently become such a huge part of our everyday lives, providing many benefits but
also providing some disadvantages. With new, engaging technologies being invented every day, being
distracted by your phone is easier than ever before. There is a concern that teenagers are addicted to
their devices, and CNN claims that teenagers spend an average of 9 hours a day on media. Much of that
time is spent on their phones, and many kids spend more time browsing their phones than studying.

Most of us are not capable enough to multitask well, and using smartphone during class or learning session
is no exception. As a student, we all know for a fact that smartphones are very advantageous. It helps in
finding references for study materials, and mostly, the satisfaction and happiness that are collected from
using it. You know, social media, Netflix, Youtube, online games, et cetera. Those sense that we got after
using smartphone for anything but studying is very gratify and that gratify is something that we always
want to get over and over and it almost never get to the point where we felt pleased or contented enough,
and to be honest? Most of us admit that it is very distracting.

It also refer to the teachers or the media like books itself. It needs to be more appealing so that the
students didn’t feel bored from learning. It will be so much attractive if the teacher could exploit the
smartphone and use it as a learning method. But it’s kind of an inconvenient thing to do and it takes a lot
of work to think about it again so it’s not very helpful. But if you could, it will be an amazing work.

But as I mentioned earlier, smartphone can be very useful for learning. That’s why we can’t just banned
to use smartphone just because it’s distracting, right? Now it comes back to our individual perspective,
whether us, as a human being want to utilize smartphone in a better way or indecent way such as playing
games or dive into social medias non-stop. Lastly, I’m gonna repeat the question one more time. Do
smartphone distracting students from learning? The answer is yes if you spend your time uploading status
on social media without a break. But if you’re going to utilize the smartphone for learning and to get a
new information about basically everything that useful, there you go. You just saved yourself from the
negativity of smartphone. I’m not saying that we can’t use social media or play online games, as long as it
doesn’t distract you from your study, you can give yourself a little break and use the smartphone to
entertain yourself. That’s all I could say, thank you very much. I know this speech is not perfect and I still
make a lot of mistakes but I will keep learning and try improve every single day.
