Abstract –
In this lab we learn how to design different types of filter using FDA tool and then learn the FVtool application for filters.

Tools Used – fdatool, fvtool

TASK NO 1: (temperature, level, pressure, speed etc.)

Design a “minimum order” low pass filter to always contains some noise. If the noise is
suppress all frequencies above 4kHz.
not attenuated it will propagate through the
controller and cause abrupt (noisy)
Results:
variations in the control signal, causing
excessive wear of the actuator (pump,
valve, motor).

Lowpass filters are useful for performing

signal conditioning, removing noise from a
signal, or rejecting unwanted signals.

TASK NO 2:
Design a “minimum order” high pass filter to
pass all frequencies above 6kHz.
Results:

APPLICATIONS:
Lowpass filters are frequently needed in
practical application based in some
processing of measurements. This is
because all practical measurements are
noisy. Typically the noise is approximately a
random signal. The filter is used to
attenuate the noise.

One very important application is in a

control system. The process measurement
APPLICATIONS: An other example is the setup in a
 Stereo system loudspeaker box,
 Qualization of a small monitor
loudspeaker  Lowpass filter for the basses,
 Electronic crossover for a 3-way  Bandpass filter for the mid range,
loudspeaker  Highpass filter for the treble.
TASK NO 3:
For a frequency range of ‘24kHz – 28kHz’,
TASK NO 4:
design band pass and band stop filters resp. Use FV tool to show all the above results
Results: Results:

FVTOOL RESULT OF TASK NO 1:

APPLICATIONS:
Bandpass filters are used in all kinds of
instrumentation, as well, in Seismology, FVTOOL RESULT OF TASK NO 2:
DSL, Sonar, even medical applications for
example electrocardiograms, EEGs and
such. They are also widely used in optics,
such as with lasers, LIDARS
