In order to solve problems in the present and future it is necessary to understand the

past.

Whenever it comes to the issue on the importance of understanding the past, some might
argue that thriving towards the future towards your goal is vital. However, as far as I am
concerned, I believe that to be able to solve the problems in the present and future, it is
vital for individuals to understand the past.

The first of my reasoning would be that reflection is a key element to improvement. People
need to reflect on their past actions to be able to recognize their faults. This is because, by
reflecting, people are given the opportunity to ensure that they do not make the same
mistakes in the future. For instance, if a student were to make a mistake on their maths
test, they would need to read back on the question and solve it again to be able to make
sure they understood the concept. By doing this, reflecting on the questions they got wrong,
the student will learn from their mistakes and is thus less liable make the same type of
mistake in the future.

In addition, by understanding the past, people may be encouraged and gain optimism
through the act of passion. This is because, by realizing what they have done wrong, people
will be less hesitant when they approach the same situation in the future. As people
become optimistic, this will enable a person to strive when faced with unfamiliar situations.
This will enable an individual to grow as they elevate their problem-solving skills as well as
analytical skills. Hence, as students become less hesitant when facing unfamiliar situations,
they will be also able to gain numerous skills within the process.

To add on, people will be able to learn different ways to approach different situations. For
instance, to give a simple example, when a child first tries to walk, they might trip and fall
numerous times. However, at the end, they are likely to figure out what they have to do in
order to succeed in walking. This procedure enables them to try out different ways and
figure out what they have to do to succeed in walking. Now, applying the same concept in
more general terms, by reflecting and understanding the past people will be exposed to a
larger variety of ways they can approach a situation. By doing so, this will provide
opportunities to not only broaden one’s views but also know how to deal with different
situations with greater ease in the future. This is because, the people who reflected will
know a variation of different ways to solve a situation through their prior experiences more
than others.

Not only, understanding the past is also important in the development of relationships. To
give a specific example, if two people went into a dispute with each other, and they didn’t
bother talking to each other but become friends again, they will be highly likely to go into an
argument again. This is because, by not delving into the problem, both individuals will not
be able to know the specific emotions, thus the perspectives, of each other. Contrarily, if
the individuals had talked through what they felt, they would have had an opportunity to
share their own perspectives. Within this process, it will enable them to understand the
different values that may be potentially held and later when the situation reoccurs, not lead
to a major conflict.
In conclusion, understanding the past opens up numerous advantages as well as decreasing
the likeliness to make the same mistakes. Due to these reasons, it is necessary that people
understand their past to solve problems in the present and future with more ease.
