1.

Relations
• Relation means connection i.e. how we are
connected to other entity.
• For example you are son/daughter of your parents.
2.
Reflexive relation:
• A relation R on a set A is called reflexive
if (a, a) ∈ R for every element a ∈ A.
• EX-1

Ex-2
3.

Symmetric Relation
• A relation R on a set A is called symmetric if:
(b, a) ∈ R whenever (a, b) ∈ R, for all a, b ∈ A.
If a=b then b=a
4.

Anti-symmetric Relations
• An anti-symmetric relation is one in which for any ordered pair
(x,y) in R, the ordered pair (y,x) must NOT be in R.
• Informally, a relation is anti-symmetric if it has no ordered
pair and its 'reverse' in it.

Ex-1

If a=b then b!=a

5.

Transitive relation
• A relation R on a set A is called transitive if whenever
(a, b) ∈ R and (b, c) ∈ R, then (a, c) ∈ R, for all a, b, c
∈A
Ex-1

If a=b & b=c then c=a

6.

Equivalence Relation
• When a Relation is Reflexive , symmetric and Transitive then it’s
equivalence relation.
• Showing Example using Design of These cars(baleno).

• Alpha Zeta Sigma
