Reflection on video: Rethinking Learning of 21st Century Learner

Nowadays, student in school require more than just a tool to learn something. They need to
understand on how to use all the tool in learning to make the learning process fun. Teacher need
to guide student on how each of the tool is being used. For example, when a teacher wants to teach
the student to search for information online, they also need to teach the student on how to surf
safely online. Things like malware and web-protection is one of the few things that make browsing
safe. Teacher need to create a simple and concise way to explain the tool so that even with different
level of intelligence, all student will understand it.

By understanding the content of learning, student can develop themselves more in class.
Delivering subject content in class is not an easy task but there are few of ways to make it fun.
Teacher can include role play or debate activity in class. By doing this, student will engage with
their friend and reduce their boredness in class. Teacher need to make sure that all of the student
in the class participate in the activity to ensure maximum output from the activity. Teacher also
can plan game-based learning by using online tools like Kahoot, Socrative and many other tools
that available. Giving reward at the end of class also can boost student to attend class next time.

Creating a healthy and fun space for student to learn will also make learning process in
class better. One of the things that can make learning fun is by measuring their achievement.
Student achievement can be measured with a collaboration with student themselves by engaging
with what the student think will benefit them. This method of measuring achievement is called
authentic assessment. According to Wehlage, Newmann, & Secada (1996), authentic assessment
is the measurement of intellectual accomplishments that are worthwhile, significant, and
meaningful.
Reflection on video: Ron Clark The Triumph

Based on the short documentary, I can see three key features to make a classroom that aren’t boring
and typical. The first thing is you need to make the student happy in learning process. To achieve
that you need to put all effort and creativity to convey your teaching to student. From the video,
Ron Clark academy have implemented rhythm-based learning or edutainment in their curriculum.
They manage to teach student the content of a subject and create a rhythm for it so it will be easier
for the student to remember it and applied it when needed. When the student gets used to this kind
of environment of learning, all of the learning process will be centered on them thus they know
what their strength and weakness in learning process.

Next, after student feel happy, it’s the teacher job to build and boost student confidence.
This can be done by letting them experience real life event and treat them equally. Real life
experience can be meaningful to student as its open new perspective about life. This approach can
in education is called authentic learning. Authentic learning allows students to explore, discuss,
and meaningfully construct concepts and relationships in contexts that involve real-world
problems and projects that are relevant to the learner (Donovan, S., Bransford, J., & Pellegrino,
1999). When students getting the real meaning of life then it was easy to build student confidence
as they already know their own willing thus ready to face it.

Last but not least, as a teacher, I need to have a set of rules to maintain the happy
environment in class but at the same time acquiring respect from student. Classroom rules are very
important as student will feel safe to do activity in class. The rules will also teach the student to be
discipline and learn to self-control. To make the rules effective, there must be a consequence for
their act and it’s the job of a teacher to make sure that all student gets equal punishment when they
do wrong thing without bias.
