Dance Critique on Tribu Kaing of Municipality of Leon

Kasadyahan Festival 2018

Last January 27, 2018 the City of Iloilo is celebrating its Regional Kasadyahan Festival z is composed of 10 tribes came from the different municipalities of Region VI but
the most number of participants are come from the different municipalities of Province of Iloilo. There are ten tribes to critique but I will only choose one the Tribu Kaing of
Municipality of Leon which I watched and viewed it clearly. Let me start on the story line of the tribe, the story first is just evolving about the community which found a wood
and specifically, helping each other to make an innovation on the founded wood. Through their unity they found a solution how to do it until they discover a woven wood called
“Kaing”. Next, they ended up the dance with a great and happy celebration showing the good progress of their town, their products, rich culture and heritage, tourist attractions
and of course colorful and meaningful feast to Sr. Sto. Nino. There were many interesting parts on the choreography, there were good points but there were also just a little bit
of bad points. Good points of the choreography are I can see that there is rhythm, dynamics, the slow to fast and fast to slow movements. In fact the movements for boys are
suited for them because it is a movement which is strong and accented which typically, for boys. Movements are detailed and some are suited on the scene. When it comes to
girls movements, literally, the movement of girls are common the jive, groove, arm movements and hip movements called “Liki-liki” hip movement. Both of the choreography is
energetic, lively and having a good transitions which can actually drive the audiences to move also. For bad points some movements are not suited on the scene for example on
the scene after they found a wood the movement of the girls are moving their elbows up and down which made me confuse if what is the purpose of that movement. Lastly,
some movements on the celebration part or the last part the canon was most used which made it boring and not lively. In the celebration part the movements will be lively and
strong because it portrays the meaningful unity and showing your rich and happy life. The costume of the tribe was so very colorful and catchy but the wrong thing is the cloth
and color of the costume must not be striking it should be cool and good to eyes because when the color of the costume is striking the impact on eyes won’t be good. The best
thing on their costume is there is a quick change of design and color which made them to get the best in costume. To the music, it is quite good and suited to the movements. It
is also jived on the movements, it has the capacity to follow the movement and it knows when to slow and when to fast. To their props or production design it was colorful and
captivating to the watchers because of the inventive design, innate creativity, colorful and not indecent chosen colors and well-formed hand props which made the performance
more meaningful and stand out. The transition and the opening and out of the props that made the transition and flow of the performance good are excellently practiced and
planned. Lastly, for materials or the dancers I can see the eagerness and willingness to win or to pay off the efforts they used. They can actually portray their character; it
seems that they understand and knew their character to portray. They were polished when it comes to movements because there is only one movement during their
performance. They know how to differentiate the movements, they know how when to slow and when to fast. It seems that they love dancing and promoting their culture and
pride of their municipality.

Overall the production was very great to me. Couple piece I did not understand what they are trying say at all or I just did not interested. There is always something meaningful
and deep down inside the performance that they want to tell a story along the dance. They did a great job!
