ESSAY 2

I remember the first time I was introduced to the internet very clearly. My father had typed
something on the search bar, clicked search, then suddenly there were so many words, so
many images, and so many information to take in. I remember the utter awe and wonder that I
felt then. It’s a feeling that I still experience every time I discover something new about these
amazing devices –computers. I want to keep learning more and more until I am cable of
making something that will hopefully, evoke that same feeling in another 7-year-old.

My grandfather, who is a computer programmer, has always been like an idol to me, and the
ultimate example of what I wanted to be in the future. Our shared love for mathematics and
computers had only strengthened our bond, which in turn, strengthened my interest in the
subject. To me, computers –and perhaps technology in general– are a reminder of all the great
things we humans are capable of, and I wish that one day I could be a part of that too.

For these reasons, and so many others, computer science is something that I am super
passionate about, and I think it is the best –if not the only fitting– major for me, I honestly
cannot see myself studying anything else. Getting this opportunity is really important to me
because it is the only way for me to get the education that I need to achieve my career goals,
considering my family’s financial circumstances.

So if I do get accepted, and graduate, I will work hard and use all of the skills and knowledge
that I had acquired to achieve my dreams of becoming a successful programmer and
businesswoman, and help others do the same.
