Vaisala
UniAtis provides spoken voice messages of weather and airport conditions for air traffic use.
These messages are transmitted over radio.
UniAtis can produce both METAR and MET REPORT type of messages according to the ICAO
Annex 3 15th edition requirements.
UniAtis receives METAR/MET REPORT text messages from AWOS over LAN or COM port,
allows manually add airport specific data and produces ATIS voice messages that correspond to
official ICAO descriptions. Spoken ATIS messages can be returned in written form to the AWOS
system.
If no METAR/MET REPORT messages are available, UniAtis can operate manually, with the
ATIS operator entering all weather data via keyboard.
Voice messages are fed to the audio output of the PC and further to the input of the VHF radio
transmitter of the airport.
ATIS
UniAtis is a software module that runs in any PC under Windows 2000/XP Pro. Voice messages
are produced of recorded words using PC standard voice device. By changing the recoded words
different voices could be produced and even in different languages. The default language is
English.
UniAtis can be flexibly configured to meet various requirements of different airports. Access to
various functions of the program can be restricted individually depending on the user name. If
required, there is a possibility to edit manually any value of the message. ATIS messages are
spoken uninterruptedly during any editing.
UniAtis operates in fully automatic mode without the need for operator intervention. Airport
specific information can be added or changed by operator any time it is required – it does not
affect receiving and handling of new arriving METAR/SPECI messages.
UniAtis is fully integrated with Vaisala MIDAS IV AWOS system so that they can be both
installed in the same PC. UniAtis uses automatically additional data produced in MIDAS IV like
runway in use, runway surface and remarks which is not the part of the METAR/MET REPORT
message. It allows an operator to use only MIDAS IV screen to operate the UniAtis as well.
UniAtis is very safe. It runs as a service so that users can not shut it down by mistake neither
does it Windows operating system. User right management gives additional security.
UniAtis is controllable by various automatic messages to AWOS and other destinations which
keeps it easily under airport maintenance crew control.
