What is the difference between Huayna Picchu/Machu Picchu Mountain?
-Huayna Picchu is the mountain located at the northwest end of the ruins and Machu Picchu Mountain is located at the southwest end.
Huayna Picchu is steeper, but more popular and has some interesting archeological ruins at the top. Machu Picchu Mountain is a longer trek,
less steep and less crowded and offers great views over Machu Picchu.

How long is the walk up to Machu Picchu?


- The hike up to Machu Picchu takes around an hour up and 45 minutes down.

How hard is the hike to Machu Picchu?


- The trail is comprised of stairs and is fairly steep, but taken slowly should not be a problem for most people.

How long is the hike to Huayna Picchu?


- The trail takes 1.5 hours to climb up and down.

How hard is the hike to Huayna Picchu?


-The trail is very steep and can be crowded. People who have trouble with vertigo may not enjoy this trek.

What is the best time to hike Huayna Picchu?


- We recommend the 10:00 -11:00 am entry time as it is more flexible with tours and allows travelers a more relaxed experience at the ruins.

When does Machu Picchu open/close?


- The ruins open at 6:30 am and closes at 5:00 pm.

Is there a bus up to Machu Picchu?


- Yes! For those not wanting to climb the steps there is a bus for US$10 with frequent departures.

How long do most people spend on MP?


- The majority of people will leave the ruins by 1 or 2 pm.

The 2.5-hour Machu Picchu guided tour is standard regardless of the package you select. We offer superior
tours, complete with A1 tour guides (the best in the business) giving dedicated one language tours (either
full English or Spanish, never mixed) with groups of no more than 15, guaranteeing you will have intimate
access to the information and insight to truly appreciate the majesty and wonder of the ruins.
The Machu Picchu full day option:
For those really short on time the 1-day by train is the shortest tour available to Machu Picchu while still allowing nearly a full day to visit at the ruins. There
are two options depending on which rail company and time schedule you choose.

Normally it is not possible to visit Huayna Picchu on the 1-day tour as climbing times are in the morning and conflict with the guided Machu Picchu tour but
we have made a package (Peru Rail) to allow for an ascent if there are Huayna Picchu entrances available.

Full day by train option w/ Inca Rail trains

You will leave Cusco at 5.00 am and go by bus to the Ollantaytambo train station to catch your train at 7.20am, arriving in Aguas Calientes at 8.45am. A guide will be waiting
to bring you to your bus up to Machu Picchu. The bus trip up to the ruins lasts about 20 minutes and upon arrival you will meet your group for a 2.5 hour guided tour.
Following the tour you will have the rest of the day to explore the site at your own pace or do an alternative trek, such as visiting the Sun Gate. The park closes at 17:30,
giving you more than 6 hours to take in the beauty of the ruins so plan your departure accordingly. It takes 20 minutes by bus, about 45 minutes on foot to Aguas Calientes.
Once back in Aguas Calientes feel free to present your travel voucher at selected restaurants and receive a 10% discount on your lunch. Your return train departs at 19:00
and arrives in Ollantaytambo at 20.30 where bus transport will be waiting to bring you back to Cusco by approximately 22.45.

Full day by train option w/ Peru Rail

This option gives you the chance to climb Huayna Picchu if there are available spots but comes with a less comfortable travel schedule than the Inca Rail option. At 2.45am
you will leave from Cusco by bus to Ollantaytambo train station to catch your train at 5.07am. You will arrive in Aguas Calientes at 6.30am where a guide will be waiting to
bring you to your bus up to Machu Picchu. The bus trip up to the ruins lasts about 20 minutes and upon arrival you will meet your group for a 2.5 hour guided tour. After the
guided tour you have time to explore Machu Picchu by yourself. If you received a Huayna Picchu pass (optional s/.24, or s/.12 w. ISIC) then you can enter the gate to climb
the mountain between 10.00 and 11.00 am Your return train with this package is scheduled for 14.55, giving you more than 6 hours to take in the beauty of the ruins. Once
back in Aguas Calientes feel free to present your travel voucher at selected restaurants and receive a 10% discount on your lunch. With the train leaving Aguas Calientes at
14.55 you will arrive in Ollantaytambo at 16.30 where bus transport will be waiting to bring you to back Cusco by approximately 18.00.

For those looking to experience the magic of Machu Picchu on a budget our backpacker option offers quality service and accommodation
without breaking the bank.

Itinerary
Day1: You will be picked up from the Loki Travel office

Flashpacker Option
For those looking to experience the majesty of Machu Picchu
in comfort and style we offer many options and upgrades
depending on your preferences.

What does it cost?

The price depends completely on which accommodation,


return train, and meal options you choose.

The flashpacker option starts at a base price of US$170/$150


with ISIC. On top of this base price follow the steps of
choosing a return train and selecting your upgrade options.

Itinerary
Day1: You will be picked up from the Loki Travel office (departure time will be confirmed in the briefing the evening before departure)
and brought to Ollantaytambo by bus where you will have about 1hour to explore the town before catching your train to Aguas

Step 1: Additional Options – Climbing Huayna Picchu/Machu Picchu Mountain
Travelers have the option to purchase a pass (depending on availability) to climb either Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain.

Huayna Picchu
This is the more popular of the two optional
mountain treks but it also can be very crowded.
200 people start climbing between 7am-8am,
and 200 people start between 10am-11am so in
total 400 people climb every morning. The trail is
quite steep and takes about 1.5 hours to climb up
and down - people who have trouble with vertigo
may not enjoy this trek. There are some
interesting archaeological ruins on the top of
Huayna Picchu.

Machu Picchu Mountain


This hike is less popular than Huayna Picchu but
no less beautiful. MPM is located on the other side
of the ruins from Huayna Picchu. There are 500
passes available daily. You can begin your climb
between 7 and 11am. The trail is less steep than
Huayna Picchu but it is a longer hike (about 3
hours total).

Step 1 (continued): Additional Options - Sacred Valley Tour
Travelers have the option to add a Sacred Valley Tour to their Day 1 Itinerary. This full day tour takes you to all the most famous and
popular parts of the Sacred Valley starting off in the famous town of Pisac. This is a fully guided tour with an English speaking guide
who will explain to you all about the different towns and ruins in the Sacred Valley. *Save US$6 if you book it in combination with your
Machu Picchu tour.

Pisaq Markets
Located in the colonial area of Pisac is its famous market. You will
have approximately 45 minutes to visit the market – we recommend
bringing along money to purchase unique, handmade souvenirs and
gifts. After visiting the market (or before, depending on your guide)
the bus will bring you up the hills above the town of Pisac to visit the
famous archaeological site. You can buy your tourist ticket here that
you will need for the rest of the day.

Urubamba
After finishing in Pisac your group will begin the journey
through the Sacred Valley, the next stop being lunch in the
town of Urubamba. It is highly recommended to book the
buffet lunch with us, as prices in Urubamba can be at least
$25 for a meal.
Ollantaytambo Archaeoligical Site
Sacred Valley Tour After lunch the journey continues along the valley to

of the Urubamba River, Ollantaytambo is a fort built into the
mountain with Andean terraces and also a traditional town.
At the top of the ruins we find the Sun Temple, constructed
of large blocks that have remained intact for centuries in

Step 2: Return Train Options
There are several options for your return train journey. Travelers need to choose either a Peru Rail or Inca Rail package (we cannot
mix companies with departures and arrivals). The Peru Rail service to Poroy requires additional private transport to Cusco. All other
packages include shared transport from Ollantaytambo back to Cusco. All trains are subject to overbooking, delays and
cancelations.

Step 3: Select Meals Upgrade
Travelers have the option of purchasing dinner on the first day, and lunch (and possibly dinner, depending on
your return train time) on the second day. Apu Inti restaurant offers traditional and fusion cuisine with the finest
ingredients in the region.

For an additional US$14/meal gourmet dining can be enjoyed during your trip to Machu Picchu.

Snack Bar
Our partner snack bar, Vizzio Café offers delicious snacks and meals during your stay in Aguas Calientes. Guests receive a 10%
discount with their travel vouchers. Vizzio Café is also where guests will pick up their lunch boxes for their hike up to Machu Picchu
(included with a hostel stay).
