The Sacrament of Matrimony

In our human life, it is inevitable for all of us to get married. Sooner or later, with
the right age, we will be getting married. But before we get married, we might want to
finish studying, get a job or get a successful career in preparation to all the things that
will happen after one gets married, that is to have family and to raise your family
financially. No one wants to live a life of miscomfort right? But before one acts out of
his\her sheer decision, they must first plan things out. Just as the saying says
“ preparation is the key to success.”

The Sacrament of Matrimony is a matrimonial covenant by which a man and a

woman establish themselves a partnership their whole life. In God’s plan, the sacred
scripture first begins with the creation of and and woman in likeness of God. Every
person needs a relationship like the saying “No man is an island” which goes to show
that man cant stand on one foot, it needs a pair, a pair that will always be there in
hardness or in comfort, in sickness or in health. Marriage as an institution is very
important that Jesus raised the marriage between Catholics to the level of sacrament.

Marriage was made by God when he created our first parents, Adam and Eve. This
means that man and woman are created for each other so that they will unite and support
one another all throughout their life. Matrimony comes from the Latin word matris and
munus which means “the duty of motherhood” which indicates God’s purpose of
marriage. We should always put in mind that God is the one that created the sacrament of
Matrimony or of marriage. And because of that, we must never violate it or mock it. We
are all free to enter the state of marriage and we are free to choose our partner. But once
we entered the contract of marriage we must now follow the law of God about marriage.

Marriage is the visible sign of our Lord Jesus Christ’s covenant with the Church.
Because the partners are required to be faithful to each other. This shows God’s fidelity
to us, mankind as well as to the fidelity of Christ to the Church. We must stay true and
honest to our partner in order to have a long and stable relationship. In every sacrament
of the Church, it is the minister who uses the matter and form that makes up the outward
sign. And in marriage, the actual sign is made up by the contracting parties themselves
which makes them ministers of the sacrament of Matrimony. The priest who envokes
God’s blessing during the ceremony is just the Church’s witness to the contract entered
by the partners.
As we all know, marriage is for creation of new innocent life. Thus the parents are solely
responsible for they serve as the first educator of their children. The task now is to be at
the service of life. Marriage is based on the consent of the contracting parties, that is, on
their will to give themselves, each to the other, mutually and definitively, in order to live
a covenant of faithful and fruitful love. The remarriage of persons divorced from a living,
lawful spouse contravenes the plan and law of God as taught by Christ. They are not
separated from the Church, but they cannot receive Eucharistic communion. They will
lead Christian lives especially by educating their children in the faith. The Christian home
is the place where children receive the first proclamation of the faith. For this reason the
family home is rightly called "the domestic church," a community of grace and prayer, a
school of human virtues and of Christian charity.

Life as it may seem, is a journey of endless possibilities. One might not know that
they already arrived at their desired life, and one might not know the things that will
happen to them tomorrow. Part of the journey is to find companions, partners and
establish a family under God. We must respect the sacrament of Matrimony, for in this
sacrament,we are able to unite with God and with our partner in order to give life.
