Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Word will support all students because word has a text to speak option
which can read the information to students. It also has different color adjustment for students that are visual
imparted along with larger text. This activity gives students the opportunity engages in both technology and
the chance to vote and work with others. Students will also have the opportunity to work in pairs to make
sure that they understand the concepts and different types of graphs. We will also make sure students
understand more than and less than by practicing on the white broad by circling items. ( Prior knowledge just
extra practice.)

Lesson idea implementation:

The standards state that students should be able to understand data that is being collected in the classroom
and use math terms to identify the number of votes along with which group is less than and which group is
greater than. For this activity the students will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite foods, color and
toy. The teacher will pick three toys, colors and food. (Teacher will write out items.) The teacher will ask the
students to raise their hand on which items they like and explain to them that they only can pick one item.
Once the items are selected, we will create the graph in class on a word document so the student can see
how to input a graph along with the coloring of how graphs work. We will work with circle graphs and bar
graphs.
The teacher will allow the students to work in pairs to look at the different types of graph that will be
printed out. As the students look at the different graphs the teacher should type questions about the data
collected. The questions should be having question such as which one is more and which or is less. The
question should relate to the data so students can analyze the data given. I will have students write use the
whiteboard to select the answer by clicking the box. (This is so the students are able to understand how to
use the board.) This activity will take 20 minutes, I will conclude the activity by have students look at more
graphs, but this time let them color in the graphs to understand the data. In order to extend the project, I
would like to take the students outside to collect data about the playground and ask them different things
about the playground. We will come back in and record the data.

Reflective Practice: I think this activity will help prepare my student because they will already have
knowledge on the information. They will also get to use technology and have education on how to use the
board. To extend the lesson it would be a great idea to let the class create graphs on their own using word.
Other tools that could help is making flash cards out of the different type of graphs so we can use them
during math centers.
