All babies have a very sensitive skin within the first few months .
Skin conditions in infants relatively thinner causing more vulnerable babies
to infection , irritation and allergies . One of the skin problems that are still common in infants
and children is diaper dermatitis . Diaper dermatitis is inflammation of skin disorders in the
diaper-covered area that most often affects infants or children .
The research objective was to determine the effect of treatment of perianal with baby oil on the
prevention of diaper dermatitis in neonates in the NICU hospitals Mamuju . The design of this
study design Quasy experiment . Its population is all infants admitted to the NICU hospitals
Mamuju . Sample size of 28 respondents that fit the inclusion criteria . Samples were taken by
purposive sampling technique . The independent variable in this study is a method of treatment
of perianal with baby oil and the dependent variable was the incidence of diaper dermatitis . The
instrument used in the form of a check list and observation sheets . Data were analyzed using the
Mann Whitney test statistic .
The results obtained pretest value for the experimental group and the control group with normal
skin condition entirely ( 100 % ) , while the value of the posttest for the experimental group
almost entirely with normal skin conditions ( 80 % ) and for the control group ( 20 % ) with a
skin condition normal . Statistical test showed the value of ρ ( 0.001 ) < α ( 0.05 ) , meaning that
there is the influence of perianal care with baby oil on the prevention of diaper dermatitis in
neonates . Conclusions from this research is the treatment of perianal use baby oil on a regular
basis before putting on baby diapers , both after urinating or BAB proven effective to prevent the
occurrence of diaper dermatitis in neonates . To prevent diaper dermatitis can be done with the
treatment of perianal using baby oil on a regular basis .
