PARTS OF THE SEWING MACHINE

 ARM-It is used to carry the whole part, holds important mechanisms inside and
carries the trade name.
 SPOOL PIN-It is the thread holder and it is found at the top right of the arm.
 BOBBIN WINDER- It controls the bobbin while winding the thread.
 STOP MOTION SCREW- It is used to release or tighten the movement of the
needle bar. It is located at the center of the balance wheel.
 STITCH REGULATOR- It is used for reverse stitching It controls the length of the
stitches, it is found just below the spool pin.
 BALANCE WHEEL- It sets the mechanism motion. It is found at the right of the
bobbin winder.
 BELT- It connects the balance wheel and the drive wheel.
 THREAD GUIDE- It guides the upper threading of the sewing machine.
 PRESSER BAR LIFTER- It lowers and raises the presser foot. It is located on
the slot on the face plate.
 PRESSER BAR- It holds the presser foot.
 THREAD TAKE UP LEVER- It controls the flow of needle thread and is found
above the tension regulator.
 FACE PLATE-It covers the left end head on which the needle bar and thread
take up lever are located.
 UPPER TENSION- It regulates tightness or looseness of the stitches. It is found
at the middle of the face plate.
 NEEDLE CLAMP- It holds the needle in place.
 PRESSER FOOT- It holds the fabric against the feed dog. It is found at the
bottom of the presser bar.
 FEED DOG- It moves the material as it stitches. It is found directly below the
presser foot.
 THROAT PLATE- It gives the needle access to the lower thread through the feed
dog. It is found directly under the needle.
 SLIDE PLATE- The metal plate covering the bobbin case or shuttle.

THREADING THE SEWING MACHINE


UPPER THREADING
1. Place a spool of thread on the spool pin.
2. Bring the thread to the thread guide.
3. Pull the thread between the metal discs of the tension.
4. Bring the thread to the take up lever.
5. Pull the thread down to the thread guide.
6. Thread the needle.
LOWER THREADING
1. Remove the bobbin case pulling on the bobbin case latch.
2. Remove the bobbin from the case.
3. Wind the thread.
4. Put the bobbin back to the bobbin case.
