U.S. GRANTEE: International Republican Institute

SUBRECIPIENT: Urdaneta City Farmers’ Association

DATES OF PROJECT: September 1, 2019-February 28, 2020

Total Costs: $ 3500

I. SHORT SUMMARY

Solar Power is one of the most efficient and economic renewable sources of energy. Any
renewable energy source can make the electricity needed to power various appliances including
water pumps. This project will help our local farmers lessen their expenses.

II. BACKGROUND (no more than two pages)

This is to address the problem regarding the water system in the farmlands of our City.

It is common to use diesel to operate power generators in agricultural operations. While

the systems can provide power where needed there are significant drawbacks,
including:

- Fuel has to be transported to the generator’s location, which may be quite a distance over
some challenging roads.
- Generators require a significant amount of maintenance, and like all mechanical systems,
they will break down and need replacement parts that are not always available.
- Fuel cost add up and spills can contaminate the land.
- Their noise and fumes can disturb livestock.
For many agricultural needs, the alternative is solar energy. Modern, well designed, simple-to-
maintain solar systems can provide the energy that is needed where it is needed, and when it is
needed.

purchasing solar powered water pumps
