Universal Design for Learning (UDL): This lesson idea supports all students because it includes both visual
and auditory aspects. Students can create graphic organizers that include videos, text, images and audio
portions. EL students will benefit greatly from this site because there are multiple language options. Students
will be able to use what they create for themselves, but also to share with their peers, families and
community.
Lesson idea implementation:

After introducing the people of history, students will each be assigned one topic to create a board on. Students
will have 1 week to create a board with audio, video, and text samples. After those are due, students will share
their boards with the class. From there, each group will combine their information to create a podcast acting
as experts on their topic. Students will share their podcasts with the class.

Learning can be differentiated by the tools on Discovery Education regarding level and language. Also, when
students are collaborating with others, they get the opportunity to learn from each other.

Reflective Practice: This activity helps students to organize their thoughts and what they learned about each
historian. In addition, students creating the podcasts allowed them to learn from each other and fill in any
points they were missing. One way to extend the lesson would be to have a podcast walk and have the
students listen to all of the podcasts at stations around the room.
