Panikian National High School started their school garden in June 2019 for Nutrition Month and competed against three other schools. Their garden was intended to promote nutritious food and require minimal labor given the high cost of vegetables and malnutrition rates. They grew a variety of vegetables and spent 1,350 pesos on supplies. The school won first place and a 3,000 peso cash prize, which they used to purchase gardening tools.

To further promote vegetable production and consumption among children,
the Department of Education (DepEd) has strengthened the implementation of the “ Gulayan sa Paaralan Program” (GPP) in public Elementary and Secondary Schools nationwide. Education secretary Leonor Briones has directed the strengthening of the GPP through its Bureau of Learner Support Services – School Health Division (BLSS - SHD). The said memorandum was to sustain school gardens, not only to attain 95% sustainable garden at present, but also to establish garden in all schools nationwide. Panikian National High School prepared Gulayan sa Paaralan started for the month of June 2019. This presentation for the celebration of Nutrition Month that we have competed in three schools. This type of vegetables gardening was to promote nutritious food & minimum labor. Considering the high cost of vegetables and the rate of malnutrition in the country today. Home or School gardening should be taken seriously by families with low income and whose member are nutritionally at risks. I prepared plant in different varities of vegetables like: Camote top, squash, okra, tomato, pepino Alugbati, patola, union leaves, ampalaya, Eggplant, kangkong, pepper, stringbeans, And the expenses are: Tarpaulin – 150.00 Fertilizer and Iron Nail – 550.00 Hose – 650.00 Total 1,350.00 During evaluation of the three schools, our school got the first place with the cash 3,000.00 pesos. The said cash prize was used to buy tools for gardening: 2 pcs. Bolo - 500.00 1 pc. Bolo Knife - 500.00 Hose - 650.00 Total 1,650.00
