Bukidnon (officially the: Province of

Northern
Mindanao (Filipino: HilagangKamindan
awan, Cebuano: Amihanang Mindanao)
is an administrative region in
the Philippines, designated as Region X.
It comprises five provinces:
1. Bukidnon
2. Camiguin
3. Lanao delNorte
4. Misamis Occidental
5. MisamisOriental
A number of factors are conducive to the
development of Region X. Foremost is its
very favourable social environment. The
very good alliances among local chief
executives, heads of regional line
agencies, NGO/private sector partners,
and the members of academic
institutions together with the support of
its friendly, literate and highly skilled
population make the region generally
secure and orderly and a very ideal place
to locate investments.
Northern Mindanao is the 8th most
populous region in the Philippines and
2nd in Mindanao (after Davao Region)
according to the 2015 Philippine Statistics
Authority Census. The major urban
areaof Region X is Metro Cagayan de
Oro which includes Cagayan de Oro and
some municipalities and cities of Misamis
Oriental and Bukidnon.
Bukidnon, Cebuano: LalawigansaBukid
non) is a landlocked province in
the Philippines located in the Northern
Mindanao region. Its capital is the city
of Malaybalay. The province borders,
clockwise starting from the north, Misamis
Oriental, Agusan del Sur, Davao del
Norte, Cotabato, Lanao del Sur, and Lanao
del Norte. It is the third largest province
in the country in terms of total area of
jurisdiction behindPalawan and
Isabelarespectively.
Bukidnon became a part of Misamis in the
latter part of 1850. The whole area was
then called "Malaybalay" and the people
were known as Bukidnons means
highlanders or mountain dwellers.
Occupying a wide plateau in the north
central part of the island of Mindanao, the
province is considered to be the food
basket of the region, being the major
producer of rice and corn.
Import/Export Products
Bukidnon is the country's major producer
of rice, corn, sugar, banana, coffee,
rubber, cassava as well as pineapple,
tomato and other fruits and vegetables.
Recognized by the Food and Agriculture
Organization as a foot-and-mouth-
disease-free province, it is also a major
producer of chicken, hogs and cattle.
Flowers and floriculture abound, as its
biodiversity and endemic species of flora
and fauna is one of the richest in the
country.

caverns with astonishing pillars and rock

Lake Napalit- The 36-hectare inland
water in Brgy.Pigtaurananpalys a vital role

serves as the food basket of the tribe. The
place is considered sacred. It’s floating
islets are among its best features.
Kampo Juan- this adventure park is
known for its environmental advocacy. It
made use of the areas no longer suited for
agriculture due to impossible terrain.
Organic foods are offered here. The place
is most famous for its unicycle or bike on
wire.
Binahon Agroforestry Farm- the place
is located in the cool base of Mt.
Dulangdulang in Songco, Lantapan. Here
you can experience sleeping in a native
hut. The surrounding is full of forest trees
and organically grown vegetables. A carrot
processing center is also located here.

Camiguin (Cebuano: LalawigansaCamigui
n) is an island province in
the Philippines located in the Bohol Sea,
about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) off the
northern coast of Mindanao. It is politically
part of the Northern Mindanao Region of
the country and formerly a part
of Misamis Oriental province.
Camiguin is the second-smallest
province in the country in both
population and land area
after Batanes. The provincial capital
is Mambajao, which is also the province's
largest municipality in both area and
population.
The name Camiguin is derived from the
native word Kamagong, a species
of ebony tree that thrives near Lake
Mainit in the province of Surigao del
Norte, the region from which the earlier
inhabitants of the islands, the Manobos,
came. Kinamigin, the local language of
Camiguin, is closely related to
the Manobo language.
Camiguin is a small province known as
an “Island Born of Fire”. This is so
because of its volcanic origins and
eruptions, theisland's tourist attractions
like the hot springs, the islets, the cold
and soda springs, the waterfalls and
sunken cemetery came into existence.
The economy is based upon fishing and
farming, with copra providing the greatest
income contribution. Lanzones has since
then became the main agricultural product
of the island province. Other agricultural
products are abaca, rice, mangoes and
other fruit trees. The growing tourism
industry has improved the economy of the
province. Small cottage industries have
increased in number to accommodate the
influx of visitors.
Lanzones Festival
Each year in the third week of October, a
festival is held to celebrate
the Lanzones (locally called
bwahan/buahan), a small grape-sized
tropical fruit grown all over the island. The
week-long Lanzones Festival is one of the
more colorful events in the Philippines.

VOLCANOES
 Mount Hibok-Hibok and Mount
Vulcan are the northernmost and the
only active volcanic vents in Camiguin.
Mount Vulcan, ironically known as
the Old Volcano [671 m (2,201 ft)], is
actually the youngest volcano in the
island, born in 1871 starting as
a fissure vent on the northwestern
flank of Mount Hibok-Hibok [4,370
feet (1,330 m)]. As a parasitic cone of
Hibok-Hibok, it is still considered part
of volcano.
 Mount Timpoong is the largest
mountain in Camiguin. It is composed
of several domes, the tallest of which
is Timpoong Peak, also the highest in
Camiguin at 5,294 ft(1,614 m). The
peak of Mambajao is the second tallest
at 5,143 ft (1,568 m). A lower central
peak of 5,015 ft (1,529 m) is located
between the two peaks. Some of the
flank vents on Mount Timpoong are
Campana Hill and Minokol Hill.

The Alimango Festival is a colorful and

who are living in harmony and prosperity
in the 27 barangays of Lala. It also
became a symbol of economic
development as more people in various
communities developed sustainable
livelihood and agricultural practices.
HudyakaKinhason Festival, Jan. 16,
Bacolod, LDN - it was the culture of the
settlers that every time they make a
bountiful harvest, they give thanks to the
Lord through street dancing. They dance
around the ‘barrio’ with colorful costumes
decorated with seashells (locally known as
‘Kinhason’), thus the name “HUDYAKA
KINHASON” was born.
AnihanFerstival of Maigo, Feb. 23 - the
celebration, which was instituted just the
year 2003, is conceived as
“Thanksgiving to the Gods” for a bountiful
harvest, as well as a showcase fo the
Municipality’s local products. The
presentation, which consists of street
parade (caronata contest), street dancing
and agro fair booths.
Sagayan Festival, July 4 - A cultural event
using as its base, a Maranao dance
performed during the ArawngLanao del

municipalities of the province. Sagayan
depicts a war dance among the Maranaos

TOURIST SPOTS
Maria Cristina Falls is 320 feet high and
spills 130 cubic meters per second of
water, its raging magnificence is
harnessed to provide electricity (although
we have heard locals grumble of the
apparent frequent outages in the
province- we have not experienced such
while we were there). This beautiful
waterfall is located at the borders of
Barangay Maria Cristina, Ditucalan and
Buru-un about 9.3 kilometers away from
the city.
Tinago Falls, which is accessible through a
300-step staircase that is located in the
upper part of Barangay Buru-un. The
waterfalls feature a curtain-like cascade
which falls into a basin-like pool of icy-
cold water. Tinago Falls (elevation- 420
feet), like what it names say (Tinago is
hidden in local dialect), is literally hidden
in a deep ravine about 13.8 kilometers
away from Iligan City proper.
Limunsudan Falls which is about 35
kilometers away from the city proper is a
breathtaking two-tiered falls with a total
height of 870 feet and is close to the
boundaries of Iligan, Bukidnon and
Lanaodel Sur.
Timoga Springs (also in Buru-un)
meanwhile is well known for its crystal-
clear water which flows into many
numerous swimming pools of each of the
resorts around the area.

is a province located in
the region of Northern Mindanao in the
Philippines.
The name Misamis is believed to have
been derived from
the Subanen word Kuyamis which is a
variety of coconut, the staple food of the
early settlers. During the years the name
persisted as an inference of the
geographical location, and upon the
advent of the Spanish settlers, the
word kuyamis easily gave way to the
more convenient pronounceable but
corrupted word Misamis.
The province economy depends firstly on
fishing, secondly on coconuts, thirdly on
rice. The province has 169 kilometres
(105 mi) of coastline fronting the rich
fishing grounds of Panguil and Iligan bays.
It also has the biggest area of brackish
water fishponds in the region. Tangub
City is a fishing port on Panguil Bay
famous for seafood. Coconut is the chief
crop. This is processed into oil, desiccated
coconut, and coir, most of which are
shipped to Cebu. Coconut processing is
the main industry in Oroquieta City. Other
crops grown are rice, corn, abaca, coffee,
cacao and rubber.
Resources
Wood is the major forest product.
Predominant species are the lauan group,
apitong, tanguigeyakal, and Philippine
mahogany. There is also an abundant
supply of bamboo, rattan and various
vines. Forest land in the province has an
area of 66,002.46 hectares; 53,262
hectares of which are considered a
national park (which has legal
implications).
The province has a considerable deposit of
clay especially in the municipalities
of Lopez Jaena and Concepcion. Plaridel is
the largest in rice production, and the
longest coastal town in the province.
There are also an abundant sources of
sand and gravel.
Being a coco-based province, major
manufacturing firms in Misamis Occidental
are engaged in the production of crude
coconut oil, cooking oil, lard, margarine,
laundry soap and desiccated coconut.
Other products are furniture, ceramics
gifts toys and housewares, processed food
like banana chips and marine products.
Locally fabricated agri-industrial machines
and equipment are also available in the
province.
TOURIST SPOT
Fort Santiago (Cotta) in Ozamis City-
this fort is an officially declared historical
landmark. It was built in 1756 by Jesuit
Fr. Jose Ducos as defense against
marauding Muslim pirates.
Bukagan Hill in Malaubang, Ozamis
City- atop this 92-meter hill are four
massive bells named “St. Peter”, “St.
Marien”, “St. Joseph” and “St. Michael.”
The bells were intendedfor the
Immaculate Conception Cathedral.
However, the bells were too heavy at 7
tons for the cathedral's belfry.
Pipe Organ of Immaculate Conception
Cathedral of Ozamis City - Composed of
1,936 pipes, it is the only pipe organ in

City- a scenic, cool adventure park. It
operates two ziplines, the country’s

Kuyamis Festival (January 05-10 –
Misamis Oriental Province)
Historical jottings and sources reveal that
KUYAMIS is the original name of MISAMIS
before the Spanish colonizers came.
Kuyamis Festival of the Province of
MisamisOriental highlights and showcases
of products and by-products made out of
Cocunut tree. It is a variety of sweet
coconut, which was a staple food of the
earliest known Negrito settlers of Misamis.
Items, handicrafts, articles, stuffs and
food of Filipino delicacies that necessarily
use coconut and its parts are sold by
different participating municipalities. Art
exhibits are also conducted by local artists
from Misamis Oriental.
Kagay-an Festival (28 August –
Cagayan de Oro City)
Every August of the year, the most
celebrated event of Cagayan de Oro, the
culture-rich and colorfulKagay-an Festival
happens. It is held every 28th day of
August, which is the feast day of St.
Augustine– patron saint of the City of
Cagayan de oro. The festival is a three-
week celebration that starts on the first
week of August with activities like pageant
competitions, marathons, agricultural
trade fairs, cultural street dancing parade,
exhibition and sponsored events to patron
and fluvial parade.

The highlights of the festival is the
Sakay-sakay Fluvial Parade at
BalingasagMacalajarBay . It is said to give
blessing to the locals. Both locals and
tourists visit Balingasag around January to
experience Sakay-Sakay festival.
Hudyaka Festival (July 12 –
Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental)
The festival is highlighted by a street
dancing competition depicting how
Laguindingan became one of the
municipalities of Misamis Oriental.
Kalinga Festival [Street
Pageantry] (July 22 – Gingoog City,
Misamis Oriental)
The Kalinga Festival in Gingoog City
features street dancing, cultural
presentations. People call it Street
Pageantry with several festive activities
showcasing art, and ingenuity in customs.
The locals also have a trade fair, in
observance of the city’s charter day.
TOURIST SPOT
La Castilla Museum- located at
Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro. It was
converted into a museum during 1997. It
was originally the vacation house turned
permanent residence of Neri and Elsa
Pelaez.One of the museum’s current
goals is to educate the youth and future
generations about the Filipino lifestyle
during the 20th century.
Mapawa Nature Park- located at
MalasagCugman, Cagayan de Oro City.
Within Mapawa Nature Park’s wide
expanse, you’ll find stunning views,
waterfalls, pools, ziplines, horse fields,
and trails where you can hike to your
heart’s content.
The Malasag Eco-tourism Village-
located at Cugman, Cagayan de Oro City.
Itis a park owned and managed by the
Philippine Tourism Authority. It highlights
replicas of tribal houses in the region.
You’ll also find a museum, a swimming
pool, a restaurant, and cottages within
this 7-hectare reforested property.
St. Augustine Metropolitan
Cathedral- located at Cagayan de Oro. is
a century old gothic-inspired church and
a must-see in Cagayan de Oro. It’s
intricate exterior design draws in both
devout and the simply curious.
