Hydraulic tools
Safety instructions

Engine type This operating instruction concerns WÄRTSILÄâ Vasa 22, 22/26, 32, 32LN,
WÄRTSILÄâ 20, 32, 32GD, 32DF, 34SG, 46, 46GD and 50DF.

General Hydraulic tools are used in several different maintenance and service tasks
on the engine. Since the tools operate under high pressure and produce
great force, proper safety precautions must be taken to reduce the risk of
injury to persons and damage to material during work on the engine and in
the workshop.
Note that these instructions alone do not constitute an exhaustive list of
necessary precautions. Each person working with hydraulic tools is
therefore urged to exercise the utmost caution and discretion at all times.

Component lifetime For safety reasons, certain components of the tool assemblies should be
changed at specified intervals.

- Piston of cylindrical hydraulic tools 1 000 load cycles

- Screw of “double” hydraulic tools 1 000 load cycles
- Hydraulic hoses and couplings 10 000 load cycles

One load cycle = raising the pressure to nominal value one time.

Piston

If the amount of load cycles is not known, we strongly recommend that the
components are changed immediately.

Instructions 1. Familiarity and proper training is required for the safe operation of

3. Hydraulic tools operate within specific flow and pressure ranges. Do not
operate the tools with other types of pumps and power packs than the
ones originally supplied.

4. Check the hoses for deep cuts or exposed braiding and replace if
necessary.

5. Check that the couplings are clean and properly engaged before
starting work.

6. Do not stand directly in front of, or bent over the tool when raising the
pressure.

7. Do not raise the pressure over the value stated in the engine manual.
Keep an eye on the pressure gauge at all times.

8. After finishing work always stow the tools and hoses properly.
