HOBY Application

Throughout my Blue Mountain career, I have tried to be as active in the community as

possible. From NHS, student council, sports and being an active member of my class and classes,
I have had many opportunities to be present in community events. I have worked the chicken pie
supper and lumber jack breakfast for two years now and have also showed the younger students
becoming involved, how things work. I have participated in community clean up in Ryegate and
a halloween themed hallway for NHS. I hope to continue being present in my community and
hope to find new things to share with the community.

The way a leader looks can differ, but if I had to say which type of leader I am I would
say quiet. When you put me with groups of people that I feel comfortable around, I tend to speak
up more. I would like to become a more vocal leader and let people know what I’m thinking
when in a bigger group setting. I have become more and more exposed to this type of leading
from the previous leadership conference I went too, but there is still plenty of room for me to
improve and grow. I feel as though I am a stronger quiet leader, but I think I could be an even
stronger vocal leader.

Leadership to me can vary from a small act to a large act. For example, helping a teacher
with something in front of peers is a small act of leadership, helping schools and communities all
over the world that are in need is a large act of leadership. Small acts of setting a good example
are the most powerful acts of leadership. Everyone is a leader in their own way whether they feel
it or not. By speaking up in class to being in many extracurricular activities, those are all acts of
leadership. Growing up in a small town, everyone always knows what you are or aren't doing
and it is always good to set a good example for the younger students and community members.
