Aaron Siskind

Jon M
Aaron Siskind was born in New York City on December 4, 1903.
He is the son of Russian and Jewish immigrants and the fifth of six
children by his parents. In his education, he graduated from the City
College of New York in 1926 and ended up going on to teach high
school as an English teacher for 21 years. He later on became flustered
with the dullness of his life, and then discovered photography after his
1929 wedding, when he received his first camera as a honeymoon gift.
He joined the Fil and Photo League in New York. While involved within
the league, he produced some of his most successful and well known
documentary photographs. Siskind’s photographs have been widely
exhibited and he received many awards for his projects. His abstract
photos from the late 1940’s and early 1950’s were major forces of the
avant-garde art in America. He later died at age 87 in Providence,
Rhode Island. Siskind was known for his monochrome abstract
photography.

I chose this one because I like I chose this one because I like I chose this one because I love
the experimentation he uses, the rural aspect and how the creepy aspect that it has,
reminds me of fireworks. everything is so compact. especially with the baby doll
head.
