METHODS – SLOPE PROTECTION

Description:

This procedure considers that the excavation is done in

correlation with the excavated wall stabilization through soil
nailing and shotcreting, should the excavation proceeded
ahead of the soil stabilization then scaffolding works will be
needed to facilitate the soil nailing and shotcreting.
The works sequence are as follows:

1. Mobilized into the work location and position the

equipment so as not to hamper the excavated activities.
There are four basic equipment used in this soil
stabilization works, the compressor, the drill, the mixer
and the grout pump/shotcreting machine.
2. Excavation shall be 1m deep
for the top most nails then
followed by 1.5 meter (there
after) until the desired depth
of excavation is reached.
3. The soil nailing and
shotcreting shall follow the
excavation (as it
progresses) on a layer by
layer as described
4. Nail holes shall be drilled to the desired depth per
location (in accordance to the details indicated in the
drawings) followed by the insertion of the nail rod
followed by the injection of the cement based grout (the
sequence and timing of the insertion of nail rod and
injection of the grout depends on the stability of the soil
as less stable soil could collapse if the grout injection is
delayed.
5. When the nails are in-place and grouted, the weep holes
shall be installed simultaneous with the installation of the
reinforcing bars, wire mesh and anchor plates.
6. Shotcreting will follow once the weep holes and anchor
plates are in place.
7. When the top layer is completed, the succeeding layers
shall follow (on a layer by layer basis) as described in
item 2-6 until the project is completed.
8. When the last layer is completed, clearing and clean-
up shall proceed.
9. Completed projects shall be turned over.
10. Demobilization shall follow once the project is fully
accepted by the owner.
