ben , ran all steps in order , no errors were found after running the 3rd step. but sp1 still fails on
configuring at 10% , this is bloody annoying as i just want to get the windows ten update . any other
suggestions?

hi ben. thanks for that grt help but it hasnt worked for me. I ran the system check and it gave some
corrupt files which it says it could not repair ! and then it saved the details in a log file which is not
accessible to me though i am the admin user. Now what ??

i have done all this i have installed readiness tool but problem is still there it still gives me the same
error window. i have attached the screen shot.

Hi, I did update my windows (including Service pack 1) and also downloaded service pack from
Microsoft website,did not get any error while installing still do not see the update under Windows
properties.

Thanks. I have two files that won't update even after repeated tries, so I'll have to do the 'Repair
Windows' route

Ben, you had me with your reference to the definition of insanity!
But then you did what Microsoft Support always does to me. You instructed me to download and run
the "Windows Update and Readiness Tool", but failed to tell me that when my computer asked me for
permission to download it, it would be called " Hotfix for Windows (KB947821)". Having learned never
to trust Windows in the past, I had no idea if this was the same program as the Update Readiness Tool,
and I wasn't about to start trusting now.
So I had to go to the dreaded Support Site, and try to find out. I did, and it was all cool, but Windows is
forever instructing me to do things, and then being totally inconsistent with its language or its
instructions, or BOTH.

WOW! it actually worked!! so used to trying internet fixes and finding out i'm the exception to it
working.

i did get a message at the end of the SYSTEM FILE CHECKER step that not all the corrupt files could
be fixed, but i couldn't get notepad to open the log file indicated. so i just ignored it and went on to the
next step, and was able to finish the update I had been trying, day after day, for about two weeks to
install. SUCCESS!!

many thanks to BEN, but to the website... the AUTO-START VIDEO AD is a PITA. get with the 21st
century and realize that customers don't pay attention to that crap, except to curse it and vow never to
buy the products advertised... k?
