CNC PLASMA CUTTING MACHINE

How to Install the Plasma Cutter

1. Put the plasma power in the middle position with the matboard under it, control
cabinet mounted on plasma cutting machine on the left side of the front position so
that the operator can watch the whole desktop plasma cutting machine and the cutting
process
2. Remove the wire on the left side and place it parallel to the plasma cutting machine
3. Fix the plasma cutter with 6 anchor bolts and adjust the equipment with the balance
level
4. Connect the power cord of the plasma power to the power supply of the workshop
(three phase 380V, 50 Hz) according to the power
5. Connect the ground wire of the plasma power to the grid frame or steel plate
6. Connect the power cord of control cabinet to the power supply of the workshop (two
phase 220V, 50 Hz) and power 1,5 kw
7. Connect the plug on the side of control cabinet
8. Connect the power supply and the signal line, connect the plasma arc voltage line and
the arc line with the CNC cutting machine (check the plasma specification to confirm
the plasma arc line and the arc)

9. Or, connect the plasma arc line and the arc to the CNC cutting machine if the plasma
power supply is provided by the users themselves

10. Connect the inlet and outlet water pipe well and let the water in the sink 80 mm
11. Connect compressed air to the inlet of the plasma power supply and adjust the air
preassure to 5.0
12. Turn on the total power supply, control cabinet switch, main power supply, and
plasma power
13. Operate according to the manual of plasma power supply, controller operation manual
and user manual. Do not modify the set parameters in the system when you are not
proficient
14. If the cutting quality is not good and cannot be solved, the electrode and nozzle of the
plasma cutting torch shall be checked, and the damage shall be replace

How to Operate
A. Preparation
1. Make sure a powerful ventilation device was installed in the workplace to remove the
smoke from cutting process
2. Make sure all the switches on the machine should be checked to be closed and the
rotating switch at the rear of the plasma power is in a horizontak position
3. Switch on the power of the main switching-off cabinet
4. Close the circuit breaker in the equipment cabinet to the ON location
5. Switch on the system control power supply, the display should have the main
interface
6. Rotate 90o the rotary switch at the back of the plasma power, the power indicator
should be on the front of the plasma power supply
7. Open the air compressor with compressor flow 1m3/min

8. Adjust the air compressor pressure control switch to make the compressor output
pressure 6,1 – 8,2 bar
9. Install multi-level joint filtration system in the fornt of the plasma power supply, if the
working environment is not guaranteed to be clean
B. Manual Operation
1. Check torch consumables and air pressure
2. Launch the Techno CNC Interface.
3. Position the stock
4. Set the torch voltage and cut height.
5. Open the desired NC file.
6. Preview the NC file.
7. Set the torch feed rate.
8. Move the machine to the origin on the stock.
9. Zero all of the axes.
10. Touch off the z position
11. Preprocess the file.
12. Put on welding shield or goggles.
13. Click Start.

How it work

Inside a precision plasma torch, the electrode and nozzle do not touch, but are isolated
from one another by a swirl ring which has small vent holes that transform the
preflow/plasma gas into a swirling vortex. When a start command is issued to the power
supply, it generates up to 400VDC of open circuit voltage and initiates the preflow gas
through a hose lead set to the torch. The nozzle is temporarily connected to the positive
potential of the power supply through a pilot arc circuit, and the electrode is at a negative.

Next, a high frequency spark is generated from the Arc Starting Console which causes
the plasma gas to become ionized and electrically conductive, resulting in a current path from
electrode to nozzle, and a pilot arc of plasma is created.

Once the pilot arc makes contact to the work piece (which is connected to earth
ground through the slats of the cutting table), the current path shifts from electrode to work
piece, and the high frequency turns off and the pilot arc circuit is opened.

The power supply then ramps up the DC current to the cutting amperage selected by
the operator and replaces the preflow gas with the optimum plasma gas for the material being
cut. A secondary shielding gas is also used which flows outside of the nozzle through a
shield cap.

The shape of the shield cap and the diameter of its orifice forces the shield gas to
further constrict the plasma arc, resulting in a cleaner cut with very low bevel angles and
smaller kerf.
