Sea Stallion 4
In 2009, the groundbreaking 13,700km SEACOM fibre-optic cable off the east coast of Africa was completed
by TE Subcom (formerly Tyco Telecom), a contract won on the back of the proven track record of their SS3.
Using another of their SS3s, TE Subcom also recently completed the TGN-Intra Asian Cable System, a 6,800km
cable providing quick, reliable connectivity throughout the region.

Trenching Systems
EB has developed and delivered a number of self-propelled tracked trenching machines featuring both Main Features:
surface-fed and vehicle-based control systems. These machines are used in a variety of applications from
Trench Dimensions W 1m x D 2m
hard ground oil and gas pipeline installation to offshore wind inter array cable burial.
Product Range Capacity 80 – 400mm
The Canyon i-Trencher is a highly manoeuvrable self-propelled tracked machine that has been designed Maximum Operating Depth 1,500m
with three main modes of operation: cutting using digger chains, open v-cut trenching and backfilling. Weight in Air 85t
All three operations are performed using digger chain assemblies, the proven mining-based technology,
instead of cutting and transporting soil.
EB engineers have been designing and building launch and recovery systems for over 25 years. All EB
systems are designed to maximise operational availability, provide a long and reliable service life and Main Features:
minimise through life operational costs by careful design and high-quality construction. EB has supplied
SWL 30t
handling systems to customers worldwide, that have then been used to handle a wide range
of equipment from ROVs to the largest cable ploughs. Operating Limit 5m Hs
Width Between Legs 7m
EB systems can be provided with trend monitoring accelerometers to provide ‘go’ / ‘no-go’ indications for Air Portable System
operators. EB’s A-frames feature symmetrical design to evenly distribute loads into the system structure, Diverless Recovery
and ensure redundancy of operations should owners experience a hydraulic cylinder failure.
The Portable Launch and Recovery System (above) supplied by EB for the NSRS forms a vital part of this
high specification emergency response system. The system is air portable and intended for mobilisation
onto a wide range of vessels within a short time frame. Diverless recovery and Sea State 6 operations are
possible using this innovative system.
Customised Applications
EB is able to bring its wealth of offshore handling experience to bear on a wide range of applications. Main Features:
It has previously provided a variety of specialist handling systems for a diverse range of offshore tasks.
PLEM Installation
EB designs are very often driven by exacting constraints, operational requirements and short delivery
Safe Working Load 500t
schedules.
Peak Loads 550t
EB handling system designs often feature wide angle linkages to elegantly achieve large angles of Maximum PLEM Weight 135t
outboard and inboard gantry movement. EB’s largest example of this to date has been the supply PLEM Size L 20m x W 12m x D 6m
of a 500t SWL PLEM handling frame to Dutch pipelay contractor Allseas.
Other projects include an innovative installation and retrieval system to aid the construction and
maintenance operations of tidal turbine developer Voith Hydro. The system is used to safely and
predictably deploy and recover Voith Hydro’s turbine nacelle to a pre-installation foundation.
The offshore wind sector presents many challenges for the safe, efficient and cost-effective installation
of structures in the marine environment. EB has proven expertise in developing and supplying innovative Main Features:
handling solutions for the construction of offshore wind parks. It previously supplied the system which
Components:
allowed the first installation of fully assembled offshore wind turbines, and first installation of offshore
turbines from a floating vessel, known as BOWTIS. Turbine Interface Frame (TIF)
Jacket Interface Frame (JIF)
In combination with business units across the IHC Merwede group, EB continues to develop a range Spreader Beam
of enabling technologies and vessel concepts for future installation operations. As offshore wind parks Total Lift Mass 950t
increase in scale, distance from shore and the water depth in which they are located, so too do the
engineering challenges that must be solved. Handling Limit 5o tilt and 0.3g acceleration in any direction
EB has developed designs for jacket installation from floating vessels, fully assembled turbine installation
both from jack-up vessels and floating vessels, and tools, such as a blade handling system, to aid
maintenance and servicing tasks.
Jack-up WIV
Deeper water offshore wind projects will require new and more efficient installation vessels and
equipment for foundation installation. EB has developed a number of concepts aimed at providing a Main Features:
stable, cost-effective and efficient means of installing jacket foundations for future offshore wind farms.
Overall Length 120m
This floating system is independent of water depth and seabed conditions so avoids the need for time- Beam 60m
consuming jacking operations. Installation of jacket piles is achieved by the use of an onboard mobile Lifting Capacity 1,260t
crane. In the present configuration the concept allows the loadout of four jackets simultaneously. Multifall Winches 4 x 70t
To allow rapid mobilisation and deployment the jackets are secured to the vessel using hydraulic Capacity 4 x Jacket Foundations
seafastenings, and are transferred to and from their stowage positions by two mobile lifting gantries.
Gantry movement is achieved using standard skidding units.
EB’s Systems Department designs and implements the hydraulic, electrical and control systems needed for the
creation and successful operation of EB products. Designing and building fully integrated power, control and
monitoring solutions.
In-house capabilities include hydraulic circuit and manifold design, surface and deep-water power and control
units, electrical control and drive panels, operator interfaces from desks and bridge consoles through to full
control suites, survey equipment spreads and ship-wide integrated systems.
EB’s control systems are based on proven industry-standard equipment and open software utilising market
leading PLC and SCADA technology. This ensures that support and spare parts are always available worldwide.
EB systems feature remote access using web uplinks to provide live support to systems operating offshore
should this be needed.
