MODERNIZATION RECOMMENDATION

ADDITION OF INSIDE-OPERATING LATCH TO INERTIAL

FILTER COMPARTMENT
PURPOSE: To provide instructions for application of an inertial filter compartment door latch
that is operable from inside the compartment.

APPLICATION: All domestic road locomotives (except GP15-1) equipped with inertial filter
compartment door latches and shipped prior to July 1980.

REFERENCE: Illustrations in this publication. Door assembly drawing 8461936.

MATERIAL
REQUIRED: Handle Assembly 8434643. Cam 8434657.

PROCEDURE
REMOVAL OF OLD ASSEMBLY -I I

1. Remove the pin from the handle assembly,

2. Remove the screws connecting the cams to the

operating bar, Fig. 2, and remove the cam
operating bar. Retain three each, screws,
washers, self-locking nuts, and spacer tubes.

3. Remove and discard the handle and rod with Fig.2 - Application Of New Cam

I. At the center position, apply new cam (inside-

operating latch) to the operating bar, Fig. 3,
using a spacer, screw, nut, and washer from the

2. Apply the operating bar to the upper and lower

3. Insert the rod of the new handle assembly

through the door and into the opening in the
cam. The handle must point downward vertically.

4. Weld the cam to the rod as indicated in Fig. 3,
making certain that the handle remains in the
downward vertical position.
