398 Holy Hours were kept before the Blessed Sacrament this past week. The
parable of the rich young man, prompts us to ask ourselves if there is
something that keeps us from following Jesus. Perhaps He asks us to let go
of our anger, fear or selfishness. All things that would keep us from following
Him with free loving minds and hearts. In an hour of adoration, ask the Lord

The priests of St. Augustine are on the emergency call list to Barberton Hospital, they
are only called in cases of emergency. If you are in or have entered the hospital and
would like to be visited by one of our priest’s, please call the rectory at 330-745-0011.
If you have a surgery planned and would like to be anointed, please call prior to
hospitalization as to make sure you receive the sacrament. If there is someone you
know who has been returned to health and can be removed from the sick list, please
contact the rectory.

Twenty-Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time

The widow in today’s gospel was successful because she was persistent. Children tend to be
naturally persistent; they will repeat the same request over and over until an exhausted parent
gives in, and then later will feel guilty for not being stronger. The gospel encourages us to pray
always and not lose heart. Our challenge is to be a good – not perfect – parent.

Pastor’s Formed Pick of the Week: “Joseph of Nazareth: The Story of the Man Closest
to Christ:
"The first feature film ever on the story of St. Joseph, who was a carpenter, the husband of
Mary, and the foster father of Jesus Christ. Scripture tells us that St. Joseph was a ""just man"" and
that God gave him the most daunting task ever asked of a man–to be the husband of the woman
who would give birth to the Messiah and the father and protector of this Holy Family. He would be
the man closest to Christ.
Starring Tobias Moretti in a manly, appealing performance, we are shown the human, noble,

Month Four – Developing Baby – Well, your little baby now weighs six
ounces. He has fingernails and eyelashes. He has his own unique
fingerprints, which will remain the same until he dies. His taste buds are
working. His sense of hearing is developing and present at 14 weeks.
There are no major developments anymore. Your spiritually adopted baby
is already formed, internally and externally. All he needs now is time to gain weight
and grow strong. What a miracle he is!
 Food, Fellowship and Faith for Adults - Join us on Monday, October 21 at 7:30pm, as we
welcome our Guest speaker Keith Johnson- Parish Catechetical Leader, St. Sebastian
Parish, who will present a talk entitled “From Pentecostal Preacher to Catholic PCL: My

AM 1260 The Rock’s Day of Prayer and Fasting for Priests - In honor of Priesthood Sunday, AM 1260
The Rock is asking the faithful of Northeast OH to join us in our second annual Day of Prayer and Fasting
for Priests on Friday October 25. Know that it will make a difference in the lives of the clergy who serve
us so faithfully. Consider offering a mass for them, going to adoration, fasting, or making some small

Men’s Fellowship will meet next Saturday, October 26 from 7-8:25am in the school cafeteria. We will
continue our study of Mark’s Gospel, and we will pray a rosary for Marriage, Family, and Respect for

On Saturday, October 26 from 10am-2pm, the Barberton Police will be collecting unwanted
medications at the old First Merit parking lot at 480 W. Tuscarawas Ave. This is a drive
up/drop off event; a police officer will meet you at your vehicle. No need to park and get
out. This project is sponsored by the U. S. Drug Enforcement Administration and they pick up the meds
from Barberton and take them for controlled, environmentally safe destruction.

Catholics across the country will be celebrating Priesthood Sunday on October 27. It is a
day set aside to celebrate the importance of the gift of priesthood in the life of the Church.
It is a time for us to reflect on the ministry that our priests share with us when we gather
at the Table of the Lord – when we call in our time of need. Consider sharing a personal
note or card of thanks. Together we pray that many of our young people will be inspired by
the ministry and witness of our priests. May their hearts be open to hearing and

St. Augustine Church will offer a special All Souls Day Mass, Saturday, November 2 at 10:00am for the
repose of the souls for those who passed away during the past year through October 18, 2019. You are
especially invited to attend the Mass at which time the names of the deceased will be read and a special
candle lit for each one. Just as a joy that is shared is doubled, a sorrow that is shared is halved. Please
join us for this special time of healing, support and celebration of life and faith.

HOLY LAND GIFTS is at St. Augustine Church this weekend November 2 &
3, 2019. There will be a display (in the school) of hand-carved items such as
Nativity scenes, crucifixes, rosaries, the Last Supper and much more. Make
your way over after Mass, all items are available for purchase and make
wonderful gifts for loved ones. Start your shopping early this year!

Be an Angel and Save the Date! - Circle Saturday morning, November 2 for the Mom & Me
Snow Angel Tea from 8:30-11:30am in the St. Augustine SAC. Enjoy breakfast, a fashion
show, and a special talk by St. Francis de Sales parish member, Therese Holderbaum,
speaking on “Angels 101.” Bring your Bestie for Hot Beverages and Warm Pastries with Cool Company—
all to benefit Akron’s Snow Angels, who minister to our community’s less fortunate with clothing,
blankets, toiletries—and foster friendship through conversations. All are welcome to attend and the

The Mass for the Anointing of the Sick will be Saturday, November 16 at the 4:00 Mass, sponsored by
the 5th grade school and PSR. If you know anyone in need of this special sacrament, please invite them,
they do not have to be parishioners to participate.

Did you know there is a Catholic organization for people with Irish ancestry? The
Ancient Order of Hibernians is committed to preserving Irish-American Catholic
heritage through the principles of Friendship, Unity, and Christian Charity. It is the
largest national Irish-American organization. Our local chapter is Southern
Summit County has its own hall on Brown Street across from the Firestone Park Post Office. If

St. Augustine Parish is currently seeking a Facilities Manager. Applicants Primary Function is to work in a
supervisory role in the maintenance and care of the parish buildings and grounds in an efficient manner
to ensure compliance to applicable building codes, safety standards and with a commitment to the best
interest of St. Augustine Parish. This position is Full Time – 40 hours per week and reports to the Pastor.
